The governing body considered but rejected options for once-a-week collections October through May, and to do half the town on Mondays and Thursdays and the other half on Tuesdays and Fridays. There was no cost incentive for these options. There is, however, a slight savings with the new contracts over the existing costs. The contract with Ippolito, the current solid waste collector, was for $999,000. The current one-year cost with Waste Management is $95,976. The council also awarded a four-year contract to Waste Management of Ewing to pick up garbage and recyclables at the borough’s three public schools. Waste Management was the low bidder at $61,536. The municipality bids out the contract as a courtesy, but payments to the hauler are made directly by the board of education.
