Christmas Eve services announced The Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes, located at 730 Franklin Lake Road, will offer special services on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m. The Candlelight Lessons and Carols service will feature Pastor Rev. Louis A. Kilgore, Music Director Mall Kiil, the PCFL Adult Choir, and the North Haledon Bell Choir. At 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve, a Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of North Haledon, 202 Squawbrook Road in North Haledon. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room at the Franklin Lakes Middle School at 755 Franklin Avenue. Children invited to reading club Franklin Lakes readers and pre-readers of all ages are invited to join the library’s Winter Reading Club. Enrollment will begin Monday, Jan. 9. The club will run through Feb. 11. Participants will earn weekly prizes and become eligible for a grand prize at the end of the program. Snowed In offered to children Snowed In, a program for children in kindergarten through grade two, will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 4:15 to 5 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library. Warm up with some stories and make a winter craft. Attendees will make and take home a surprise snack. Franklin Lakes residents may register beginning Tuesday, Dec. 27. Blackwell Street Artists exhibit work Blackwell Street Artists will exhibit at the Gallery of the Presbyterian Church of Franklin Lakes during the month of December. Several local artists will be exhibiting with the group; they include Joe Terrone, Mary Guidetti-McColl, Peggy Dressel, Nora Winn, and Chris Kappemeier. The Blackwell Street Artists, established in 1983 by local artists from Morris County, opened exhibition space in a building on Blackwell Street in Dover. The artists
Hitting a safety milestone
Janet Drusselmeier recently became the 1,000th participant in the Franklin Lakes Police Department’s Child Passenger Safety Program. The program was created in 2001 to address the high percentage of improperly restrained child passengers in motor vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 80 percent of child restraints are used incorrectly. Program sponsors include PBA Local 150, Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Allen & Allen Insurance, Cartridge World – Franklin Lakes, Bill’s Shoe Repair, Sicomac Pharmacy, Planet Beach Tanning Spa, Kate Conover of Re/Max Properties, Dressed 2 Perfection, Wyckoff Family YMCA, Decorating Den Interiors, and Franklin Lakes Opticians. banded together and became a non-profit group. They also provide lectures, seminars, workshops, and other community programs about the fine arts. The group has received many grants and awards for its cultural contributions in Morris County. One of the featured events is the Annual High School Student Art Show, which provides a venue for students in Morris County to display their work. P.I.N.T. Center registration open Registration is now under way for the Franklin Lakes Public Library’s P.I.N.T. Center. This program is for newborns through two-year-olds. P.I.N.T. Center offers a language-enrichment program, in which simple stories, songs, rhymes, and finger plays are presented. Each 45-minute session begins with an informal play period followed by a more formal presentation. The program will meet on Mondays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. or from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Sessions are scheduled for Jan 23 and 30, and Feb. 6 and 13.
