Area December 14, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 Upper Saddle River man faces child luring charges A 26-year-old Upper Saddle River man was arrested Dec. 7 in Paramus after a two-month investigation into several incidents that were reported to several local police departments wherein an adult male attempted to lure juvenile females, all of whom were under the age of 16, into his car and verbally direct lewd sexually explicit language toward the children. During the reported incidents, Shahan Achian was operating either a 2008 black colored Cadillac Escalade SUV or a 2011 black colored Infinity. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that on the dates and times of the reported incidents, Achian was in the vicinity of each of the incidents. Achian’s physical description and the vehicles he used matched the descriptions supplied by the victims. The alleged incidents occurred on the following dates and in the following jurisdictions: Oct. 16 and Nov. 7 in Montvale, Oct. 20 in Glen Rock, Oct. 21 in Ho-HoKus and Ridgewood, and Oct. 25 in Allendale. The arrest was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli and Chief Jeremy Abrams of Montvale, Chief George Scherb of Allendale, Chief John Ward of Ridgewood, Chief Frederick Stahman of Glen Rock, and Chief John Wanamaker of Ho-Ho-Kus. The suspect has been charged with luring/enticing of a child and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest came about as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello, and the Montvale, Allendale, Ridgewood, Glen Rock, and Ho-Ho-Kus police departments. The Emerson and Upper Saddle River police departments also assisted in this investigation. Achian was charged with the following in the jurisdictions noted: Montvale: two counts of luring/enticing of a child (second degree) and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (third degree). Allendale: one count of luring/enticing of a child (second degree) and one count of endangering the welfare of a child (third degree). A theft of about $10,000 from an unlocked restaurant safe topped the list of incidents in Wyckoff for the end of November as police investigated that theft and several other high-ticket larcenies. The manager of the Blue Moon Restaurant on Franklin Avenue reported the theft of an amount in excess of $10,000 in cash from an unlocked safe during the course of a business day. Detective Musto and Police Officer Plisich are investigating. On Nov. 17, two days after the report of the Blue Moon case, the manager of Getty Gas at 322 Franklin Avenue reported a burglary at the station. The unknown perpetrator gained entry in a manner that could not be determined. Once inside, the perpetrator Police investigating theft drilled open an office safe and also pried open a locked drawer. About $1,500 in cash was reported stolen. Wyckoff Police Sergeant Ragucci, Patrolman Tully, and Detective Musto investigated. On Nov. 19, a resident of Fairview Place reported a burglary at a pool house located in the rear yard of the house. A cable control box, a Nintendo Wii system, an electronic keyboard, and a portable CD radio were stolen. Patrolman Kasak investigated. On Nov. 29, a contractor working on a sewer project on Kenneth Place reported the theft of a demolition saw valued at $1,100 that had been left in the rear of the pickup truck. Patrolman Tagliareni investigated the theft. J. KOSTER Ridgewood: one count of luring/enticing of a child (second degree) and one count of endangering the welfare of a child (third degree). Glen Rock: one count of luring/enticing of a child (second degree) and one count of endangering the welfare of a child (third degree). Ho-Ho-Kus: one count of luring/enticing of a child (second degree) and one count of endangering the welfare of a child (third degree). Bail was set by Judge Edward Jerejian, J.S.C. at $200,000, no 10 percent option, no contact with the victims, after which, Achian was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. Arraignment dates will be set by the individual police departments. Prosecutor Molinelli states that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
