(continued from page 9) The department has won praise for high-level performance during the weather emergencies in 2011 and, most recently, for winning the North Jersey Award of Excellence for Pedestrian Safety from the Automobile Association of America. Chief Fox appeared at last week’s meeting with Lieutenant Charles Van Dyke, Sergeant Jack McEwan, Sergeant Robert MacKay, Detective Michael Musto, and Patrolman Kevin Kasak – Patrolman Brian Zivkovich was on another assignment – to pass the award plaque on to the township committee. Wyckoff was one of 10 municipalities out of 98 eligible to win the AAA Award. The DPW scale will increase two percent, with an increase of 2.85 percent for lead laborers. A worker will earn $56,997 at the eighth step of employment in 2012, and a lead worker will earn $66,112 at the eighth step of employment in 2012. Longevity pay has been eliminated for DPW employees hired after Jan. 1, 1994. The Wyckoff DPW was also praised for work clearing storm damage after the Oct. 29 snowstorm and Mayor Kevin Rooney noted that the road crews picked up 456 40yard containers of branches and limbs in addition to the branches and limbs that the crews chipped on the road.

Class of 2014 selling umbrellas The Ramapo High School Class of 2014 is holding an umbrella sale to raise funds for Project Graduation. The students are offering green and white golf umbrellas for $20 each. The 60-inch bumbershoots have a metal shaft and wooden handle. A 36-inch telescopic folding version is available for $15. Local sponsors sought The athletic department at Ramapo High School is seeking community sponsors for its sports poster program. Funds raised by the sale of the posters will benefit the athletic departments at the high school. All American Sports Posters has been contracted to produce the posters. Cheerleading Clinic offered The Ramapo High School Varsity Cheerleaders will hold a Cheerleading Clinic for eighth grade girls on Saturday, Dec. 17 from noon to 3 p.m. Taught by the Ramapo team and coach, participants will learn cheerleading skills in preparation for high school tryouts.
