December 7, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 29 Wyckoff Wanderings Temple set Chanukah events Temple Beth Rishon will usher in the eight days of Chanukah on Friday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. with a special Friday night Shabbat service. Holiday music will be performed by Cantors Ilan Mamber and Analise Ocanto along with the Kol Rishon adult choir, the Zemer Rishon teen choir, and special guest musician Galeet Dardashti and her band “Divahn.” The service will be followed by a concert featuring Dardashti and Divahn performing traditional Middle Eastern Jewish music with an innovative sound. Their performance features Indian and Latin percussion, lush string arrangements, and vocals in Hebrew, Aramaic, and JudeoSpanish. An Oneg Shabbat with desserts will follow. A congregational dinner at 6 p.m. will precede the service and concert. The event is free to members with reservations by Thursday, Dec. 15. The cost for non-member is $15 per adult, $7 per child under age 13, or $36 per family. On Dec. 18, the holiday celebration will continue with a Chanukah Fun Day. The afternoon will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a candle lighting ceremony. Lunch will follow at noon and will feature a Potato Latke Contest. Enjoy crafts, entertainment, a live DJ, holiday shopping, and more. Members will be admitted free of charge. The cost for non-members is $12 per adult and $8 per child, with a maximum of $36 per family. Registration is required by Dec. 12. A trip to see the National Yiddish Theatre production of “Shemiel the First” is being offered on Sunday, Dec. 18. The 3 p.m. performance will take place at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $38. Seniors plan events The Wyckoff Seniors have planned a trip to the Brownstone in Paterson for lunch and entertainment on Dec. 14. On Jan. 3, the group will hold its installation luncheon at Giuseppe’s in North Haledon. The Wyckoff Seniors Club meets every Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. in the Larkin House located at 380 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. CHCC holds Toy Drive The Christian Health Care Center Community Outreach Team will be collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program through Dec. 16. Donations of new, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the CHCC Commons/Administration entrance at 700 Mountain Avenue, Wyckoff. Y announces holiday performances The Wyckoff Y Theater Arts Company will present “Miracle on 34th Street” on Dec. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 10 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 11 at 1 and 5:30 p.m. at the Y located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue. Written by Meredith Wilson (“The Music Man”), the show features a rousing score, rollicking choreography, and an inspirational story in which Santa Claus is taken to court to prove his identity. Christmas Concert coming to Grace Methodist Grace Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas Candlelight Concert on Sunday, Dec 11 at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Under the direction of organist and Director of Music Alan Newman, the five combined choirs of Grace will perform the music of the season. The concert will feature harpist Mary Elizabeth Young, guest soloists mezzo-soprano Laura Van Orden, baritone Steven Gant, and soprano Lori Vanderaa. The harp prelude will begin at 3:45 p.m. and will be followed by the choir processional at 4 p.m. The event will include congregational singing accompa- nied by both the harp and the 1880 historic Roosevelt pipe organ. Refreshments will follow in fellowship hall and a free will offering will be taken. The concert is open to the public. The church has scheduled three Christmas Eve services at 3, 5, and 9 p.m. On Christmas Day, there will be a service at 11 a.m. Regular Sunday services are held at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday School is offered to adults and children.
