The project was held in Louisville, Kentucky in connection with the Green Industry Conference, PLANET’s national annual meeting. “Volunteerism is a personal passion of mine as well as a vital part of the corporate culture of Jacobsen Landscape,” said Jacobsen, founder and owner of the 33-year-old landscape company with headquarters in Midland Park and a landscape gallery in Saddle River. The PLANET Gives Back volunteer project was the culmination of nearly a year’s worth of planning by Jacobsen. The day-long event in November teamed PLANET volunteers with Metro United Way, a local United Way affiliate, to enhance four facilities in downtown Louisville. Project sites included Bridgehaven Mental Health Services, Heuser Hearing Institute, The Center for Women and Families, and Engelhard Elementary School. Jacobsen employees Ed Gorman and Emil Rostello also participated in the PLANET Gives Back project. “We are so grateful to have volunteers such as Glenn and Jacobsen Landscape,” said PLANET President Jerry Grossi. “This project is just a further example of PLANET members’ dedication to beautifying green spaces across the country and giving back to communities.” The PLANET members from around the country planted shrubs and flowers, pruned, mulched, cleaned up areas, installed water features, and planted grass around Louisville. “Our association wanted to give back to the city that has been the site of our annual meetings for a number of years and this was an ideal way to thank our hosts,” Jacobsen said. He plans to make this an annual volunteer event as Jacobsen participates in ‘Planet Gives Back’ Glenn Jacobsen, founder and owner of local landscape company Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction (back row, third from left) recently spearheaded a day of volunteerism at the PLANET Gives Back event in Louisville, Ky. he looks to spread his passion for volunteerism to his colleagues from around the country.
