Franklin Lakes December 7, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 11 Council accepts recommendation for new calendar by Frank J. McMahon The Franklin Lakes Council has approved Borough Administrator Gary Hart’s recommendation to award a contract for the layout, design, and printing of the 2012 borough calendar to Staples for an amount not to exceed $6,859. Hart advised that the calendar will be mailed to all borough residents by the end of December. Proposals were solicited for the layout, design, and printing of the 2012 borough calendar, Hart advised, and several proposals were obtained from other vendors. Along with other factors that were considered, he said, Staples submitted the most favorable proposal and price. According to Hart, the cost of the calendar is anticipated to be offset by the sale of advertisements. Ad revenue is expected to exceed the cost of producing the calendar. “The mayor and council have decided to create an informational and vibrant 2012 borough calendar and a resident handbook reference guide, which will be sent to all borough residents and businesses,” Hart wrote to all business owners in the borough in an October letter seeking advertisements. “The full-size calendar will feature full color beautiful photos of local scenes,” Hart stated, “and will include recycling dates, meeting dates for borough boards, committees, and commissions, and some time-sensitive deadlines.” Businesses operating in the borough were offered the opportunity to purchase full color advertisements on the bottom of the calendar page, and there will be two advertisements for each page. “For advertisers, this is a good promi- nent location where people will see their advertisement while not being overly distracting or obtrusive to those utilizing the calendar,” Hart said. He added that by placing an advertisement in the 2012 borough calendar, the business will be given an opportunity to place an advertisement in the 2013 calendar, prior to a mailing being made to all other businesses. The reference guide the borough plans to distribute to all residents will contain pertinent information about the borough, including a directory of contacts and details about recycling and recreation programs. A decision on the printing of the handbook has not yet been made. However, according to Hart, the publication will be a 30+ page black and white guide. Hart said the handbook would include two full-page black and white advertisements, which will be on the inside covers. (continued on page 35)
