Household hazardous waste collection set The Bergen County Utilities Authority will sponsor a free household hazardous waste collection on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute, 200 Campgaw Road in Mahwah. Materials that will be accepted include aerosol cans, Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the first of a four-part series of fall/winter workshops on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. The Sept. 11 workshop topic is “Create Your Communications Strategy and Resume.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. West Bergen offers Saturday art workshops West Bergen Center for Children and Youth Asperger’s Related Services will offer Saturday art workshops for children ages six through nine and 10 through 13.
The one-hour workshops provide an opportunity for children on the spectrum to benefit from creative activities such as drawing, painting, and sculpting. Scheduled dates for 2011 are: Sept. 17, Oct. 15, and Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to noon for children ages six through nine; and from 1 to 2 p.m. for children ages 10 through 13. The fee of $35 includes all materials. Please note that all dates and times will be confirmed one week prior to class. Asperger’s workshops planned The Asperger’s Services Department at West Bergen Center for Children and Youth will present three workshops for professionals, family members, and students. The co-facilitators are West Bergen professionals who are master’s level clinicians. Participation is limited. The fee is $25 per workshop, and pre-registration is required. The courses offered include: Asperger’s 101, which will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.; Therapeutic Social Skills for Individuals with Asperger’s and Related Disorders, which will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and Two or Three for One: The Complexity of Co-Morbidity in Asperger’s and Related Disorders, which is set for Tuesday, Sept. 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. All workshops will be held at the Center for Children and Youth, One Cherry Lane in Ramsey.
