DOT to trim trees along Route 208 The New Jersey Department of Transportation will perform tree trimming along Route 208 in Wyckoff. The DOT will cut back tree branches that overhang the state highway and remove dead trees from the road’s edge as a safety precaution. The Wyckoff Shade Tree Commission and the township’s road department and police department will meet with the DOT in an effort to limit trimming to safety precautions only. Residents who have specific questions regarding the section of NJDOT’s Route 208 unpaved right-of-way that abuts their properties may call NJDOT at (609) 5886211. Temple sets events for prospective members Temple Beth Rishon, 585 Russell Avenue, will hold a brunch for new and prospective members on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the clergy, temple president, board officers, and other new and prospective members in an informal atmosphere. Gift shop to host Sidewalk Sale The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will hold a Sidewalk Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in the Tea Room. Many items will be offered below cost, including baskets, holiday gifts, garden and home decor, and jewelry. Additional items will also be on sale inside the shop. The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room is a full-service gift featuring unique gifts for all ages and occasions, Delftware, Dutch lace, florals, baby items, unique children’s gifts, Dutch cookies, candy, and creative products for independent living. The coffee/snack counter carries a variety of special blend coffees, fresh baked goods, and snacks. All proceeds from de Snoep Winkel benefit residents and patients of the center.

Golf & Tennis Classic announced The Wyckoff Y will host its Annual Fall Golf and Tennis Classic on Sept. 19 at the Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell. The outing, which is being held in memory of Wyckoff’s past superintendant of schools and renowned educator Dr. Roger E. Clarke, benefits the Y’s special needs populations and the Roger E. Clarke Scholarship. The golf registration fee is $295 per person, and $1,180 for a foursome. The day includes lunch buffet, 18 holes of golf, contests, hole-in-one car prizes, special contests, and cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Golfers may also choose to play nine holes of golf and attend the lunch only for $160. Tennis admission is $75 per person and includes continental breakfast, tournament, lunch buffet, special fundraisers, and prizes from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Afternoon tennis sessions are also available. Fees are $75 for afternoon tennis plus lunch, and $100 for afternoon play and the cocktail reception. Corporate sponsorship opportunities for all events are still available. Students earn dean’s list honors The following Wyckoff students have earned dean’s list recognition at William Paterson University: Kayleigh Abma, Laurel Buffa, Megan Englander, Bridget Kozma, and Caitlin Murphy. In order to qualify for the dean’s list, a student must carry a minimum of 12 credits for the semester and earn a grade point average of 3.45 or better. Candidates sought for board vacancy The Wyckoff Board of Education is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacancy. The term will run until April 2012, at which time the position will be on the ballot in the annual school board election. Prospective school trustees must be registered voters who have lived in the district for at least a year. They must be able to read and write, and cannot hold a contract with, or claim against, the school district, and cannot have been convicted of certain crimes. Children from the Child Day Care Center at Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff recently participated in an intergenerational activity with residents from CHCC’s Heritage Manor Nursing Home. They met on the Spirit Path, a walking path at CHCC for the enjoyment of its residents, family members, and staff, and sang songs together. Morning and afternoon classes are offered for children, twoand-a-half through six years. Pre-nursery, nursery, pre-K, transitional kindergarten, and a new extended kindergarten class are offered. Barclays tickets benefit health care center The Christian Health Care Center Foundation in Wyckoff is offering tickets to the PGA’s The Barclays annual golf tournament. The cost is $50 for a week-long pass. The tournament will be held at the Plainfield Country Club in Edison from Aug. 23
to 28. The Barclays is the first playoff event in the FedExCup. In 2009, The Barclays began its Tickets Fore Charity program. This fundraising opportunity gives local charities, such as the CHCC Foundation, the ability to partner with The Barclays in order to promote the sale of tournament tickets. Clarification of August 10 Wyckoff maintenance story The Aug. 10 article regarding the Wyckoff residents who discussed maintenance of three traffic islands on Sunrise Drive stated that the islands contain juniper trees and grass. There is creeping juniper on two of the islands, and all three islands contain plum trees, but there is no grass present. The residents are asking the township to mulch the islands once a year and weed once a month during the growing season.
