Students earn dean’s list honors The following Midland Park students have earned dean’s list recognition at William Paterson University: Richard Dal Cortivo, Neda Kassai, Sarah Kennan, Glen Monturi, Alyssa Rittinger, and Mary Skretkowicz In order to qualify for the dean’s list, a student must carry a minimum of 12 credits for the semester and earn a grade point average of 3.45 or better. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland School. Cooperstown’s team sign-up under way Sign-up for the Midland Park Baseball 2012 Cooperstown’s team is under way and will continue until Aug. 31. To be eligible, players must meet all of the Midland Park Baseball Association recreation/travel requirements. Attendees must be 12 years of age on or before April 30, 2012. In the event of overwhelming response to the program, a tryout will be scheduled and players will be reviewed by an outside evaluator. The cost of the evaluator will be split among those players who attend the tryout. Parents should be prepared to participate in the year-long fundraising required to send the team to Cooperstown. Anyone interested may e-mail midlandparkbaseball@ gmail.com. Midland Park artist mounts one-man show “Romancing the Light”, an oil painting exhibit of the works of award-winning painter Carl L. Holst, will be featured at the Stover Mill Gallery in Erwinna, PA during the month of September. An Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. The public is invited; admission is free, and the gallery is handicapped accessible. Known as the “painter of poetry” for his ability to capture on canvas the mood and light his subjects evoke, Holst
will be exhibiting more than 20 of his original oil paintings. Still lifes of everyday subjects, portraits, tranquil scenes, breathtaking vistas and nostalgic landmarks are included in the collection. Throughout his career, Holst has garnered a number of prestigious awards, including the Salmagundi Club Award. Most recently his “Old Stone Bridge” entry won a first place award for oil painting at the Juried Show held at the Arts Center of Northern NJ, and he received another First Place Award for Oil Painting at the Tinicum Arts Festival Association’s Juried Show. On the Board of Directors of The Ridgewood Art Institute since 1989, Holst is a member of the American Artists Professional League located in New York City. His paintings are in many private and corporate collections, including that of a U.S. Senator. He also exhibits at galleries in New York and New Jersey. Atlantic City trip for seniors planned The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center in Midland Park will host a trip to Caesar’s Casino on Wednesday, Aug. 31. The trip is offered to adults age 60 and over. The bus will depart from the Midland Park Municipal Parking Lot on Highland Avenue at 8 a.m. and will return at about 7 p.m. The $25 per person charge includes the bus, the driver’s tip, and $25 in slot play. All participants must have a valid photo ID to receive the casino bonus. Register and pay for the trip at the senior center located
at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park. The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is open to all area senior citizens age 60 and up. Group tour to Ireland planned Go Ahead Tours seeks travelers for an eight-day trip to Ireland that will begin on Sept. 22, 2012. The itinerary will include visits to Galway, Cork, and Dublin. Chiropractic center to treat returning veterans Nuzzi Chiropractic Family & Sports Center is teaming up with Army OneSource, a U.S. Army Community outreach program, and the Army Community Covenant to raise awareness of the unique challenges of military life on service members and their families and to address the growing need for accessible health services. As part of its commitment to this cause, Nuzzi Chiropractic Family & Sports Center will treat returning veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars for free for a minimum of 60 days. The Association of New Jersey Chiropractors made a commitment statewide by signing a community covenant that commits volunteer chiropractors to treating these returning veterans as part of the “Healing Hand 4 Heroes” program.
