Midland Park August 3, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 5 The Midland Park School District is reaching out to the Midland Park community through a survey to engage them in the hiring process for a new principal for Midland Park High School. Patricia Terraciano, who has been at the helm of the high school for the past nine years, announced her retirement last month effective August 31. “The opinions and input of our parents/guardians and community members is an important component of this process. We encourage everyone to access this survey and share their perspectives,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Cirasella. The Community Input Survey asks residents to share any opinions, suggestions and concerns they may have that will help the board reach a decision on Terraciano’s replacement. Questions are geared to determining the aspects of the position that are important to respon- Community input sought to aid in principal search dents. Among other issues, it also seeks to ascertain what respondents feel are the challenges facing Midland Park High School, how well the school leadership is addressing weaknesses or gaps in student achievement and how the leadership can improve upon building a stronger school community. The survey is now available on the district website, www.midlandparkschools.k12.nj.us; click on “principal hiring process” at right to access the document. Copies of the survey are also available in the offices of the borough’s three schools and at Memorial Library. All survey results will be carefully reviewed and considered, Dr. Cirasella said. Dr. Cirasella said the board’s personnel committee would narrow down for first round interviews the 30 candidates who filed by the July 29 deadline, including one in-house candidate. A committee of parent representatives, administrators and teachers will conduct the interviews and choose two or three finalists for a second round interview with administrators and board members, she said. The superintendent said she hopes to conclude the interview process in late August/early September. When a new person would be in place, she said, would depend on the circumstances once a selection is made. The board has named Nick Capuano, the school’s assistant principal since 2007, to serve as acting principal through Aug. 31. He will be paid an additional $2,500 for the acting duties. The Midland Park United Methodist Church will offer its Vacation Bible School, “SonSurf Beach Bash,” Aug. 8 through 12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Breakfast will be Vacation Bible School coming up served each morning.
