April 27, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 11 Franklin Lakes Scribe Town Cleanup Day announced The Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission will hold a Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve, formerly the Haledon Reservoir, parking lot on Ewing Avenue for refreshments and instructions. Gloves, bags, pick-up sticks, and T-shirts will be provided. This year’s program will be centered on the nature preserve property. The public is welcome to participate. Scoop Night benefit set The Franklin Lakes Fire Department has teamed up with Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins to host the annual 31 Cent Scoop Night Celebration on Wednesday, April 27. This event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins at 754 Franklin Avenue. The fire department will provide attendees with fire prevention literature, and a children’s activity will be available. Republican Club to meet The Franklin Lakes Republican Club will meet May 2 at 7:45 p.m. at the Bender Court Ambulance Corps Building. Topics will include a council review of the 2011 borough budget, upcoming borough events, and communication programs. The Franklin Lakes Republican Club is a non-profit organization established to represent the Republican Party in town. The club is devoted to the cause of community improvement and good government through the medium of an organized Republican Party and the support of candidates for public office who will best represent the interests of the residents and taxpayers of Franklin Lakes. Police department hold prescription drug collection The Franklin Lakes Police Department, in conjunction with the Franklin Lakes Municipal Alliance and the Franklin Lakes Girl Scout Cadet Troop #239, will conduct a DEA-sponsored prescription medication take-back program on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Police Department headquarters on DeKorte Drive. Residents are invited to bring their unwanted or unused prescription drugs to police headquarters. Law enforcement officials will then ensure that the drugs are disposed of in a safe manner. The collection of the medications will be handled expeditiously and anonymously, with no identification required. The drugs may be submitted in their container (with any identifying information removed), or loosely deposited into the collection box. Liquid products, such as cough medicines, should remain tightly sealed in the original containers. Syringes will not be accepted at the collection site. Ten extraordinary kitchens in Glen Rock, Franklin Lakes, Ridgewood, Saddle River, and Wyckoff will be featured. All proceeds from Kitchen Tour 2011 will support the Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s pledge to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit and Valley Home Care’s Maternal Child Health Program. In some homes, visitors will be able to view other rooms, so be prepared to be dazzled by everything from Murano handblown chandeliers, to one home with spectacular views of Manhattan and another home with a turreted upstairs family room with a hand-painted mural and other colorful décor designed to resemble the inside of a hot air balloon. Visitors will also enjoy lovely table settings and exquisite floral designs, complimentary refreshments, and a four-color Kitchen Resource Guide. The selection committee has chosen a diverse group of homes for the tour, which includes a 1931 original farmhouse, an ultra-modern home, and a unique brick home with a caterer’s kitchen. Regardless of size and style, these kitchens are all designed for serious cooking. They include professional cooktops and appliances and fabulous countertops by famous makers.
