September 29, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 21 Mahwah Minutes Influenza vaccine clinic planned The Mahwah Board of Health will conduct its annual influenza vaccination program, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 22, at the Mahwah Senior Citizens Center, 475 Corporate Drive. Mahwah residents age 65 and over, and residents with chronic medical conditions who present a doctor’s note are eligible. Pre-registration is required. Call the health department at (201) 529-5757 and select Prompt 2 to pre-register. Callers should have their Medicare cards in hand at the time of pre-registration. HMO participants are not eligible for this program. Residents who have HMO insurance coverage must contact their private physician for an immunization. Annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method for preventing influenza virus infection and its complications. The vaccine is formulated to protect against strains of the virus that are expected to be circulating, and will include protection against the H1N1 strain this year. Decorator to present design workshop Susan Tenny Keefe of Decorating Den Interiors will hold “Entertaining Space,” a design workshop on Monday, Oct. 4. the program will be held at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road, at 7 p.m. Keefe will bring samples to help the audience determine their style and will show “before and after” room transformations that include examples of dining rooms, family rooms, and living rooms. She will also discuss ways to make homes more user-friendly. Certified Interior Decorator Keefe is the owner of Decorating Den Interiors, a complete in-home interior decorating firm serving Ramsey and Mahwah. She started her business in 2004 after spending nearly 25 years in Manhattan as designer/editor in the advertising industry. She has received several awards, including a win in Decorating Den Interiors’ annual design competition. “Entertaining Space” is free. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. Benefit Pancake Breakfast set Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at the corner of West Ramapo Avenue and Route 202 North in Mahwah, will hold a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8 to 11 a.m. All funds are designated as an offering of thanks for the pastor of Mark Koenig, who is donating his kidney to Koenig, giving him a chance at new life. Blood Drive, fire prevention event set The Annual Firefighter Mike Drozd Memorial Blood Drive and Fire Prevention Open House will be held Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mahwah Fire Company #1 at 100 Miller Road. Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75, who weighs at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive complimentary cholesterol and glucose screening with every blood donation. In addition to the blood drive for the Community Blood Services, donations of non-perishable food for the Center for Food Action will be collected, and there will be an organ donor registration for NJ Sharing Network. School hosts Open House Young World Day School will hold an Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 9:30 to11 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. Parents may tour the facility, visit classes, and learn about the school. Young World Day School educates children ages two through grade five, offering a choice of traditional or Montessori preschool, all-day kindergarten, and a multi-grade approach to grades one through five. Parent group offers workshop The Mahwah Parent Advocacy Group will present a workshop for parents, “SPAN Awareness,” on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mahwah High School media center. The school is located at 50 Ridge Road. This free workshop is designed to provide parents/ caregivers and community members with information on the activities, staff, and services that SPAN (Statewide Parent Advocacy Group of New Jersey) has to offer to New Jersey residents. SPAN, the state’s leading parent advocacy agency, aims to empower families and inform and involve professionals and other individuals interested in the healthy development and educational rights of children.
