Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • September 15, 2010 Mahwah The Mahwah Museum at 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah is open for tours Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. The museum’s new exhibits include “Businesses & Industries in Mahwah-Advance of Technology,” which relates the development of business and industry in Mahwah and features the Stryker Corporation, American Brake Shoe Company, and the Ford Motor Assembly Plant. Through hands-on artifacts and photographs from the museum collection, visitors will see how technology and innovation improved product quality and enabled increased productivity, resulting in the industrial development of Mahwah. The “Site Contour Model with Fiber Optic Lighting” Local museum featuring new exhibits this fall is a 1/6000 scale site model of Mahwah illustrating three periods of the township’s history using fiber optic lights. The 1700 to 1800 period shows historic Revolutionary War routes, grist mills, and Indian sites. The model that covers the period from 1800 to 1900, shows the development of roads, railroads, businesses, schools, churches, and residences. The model depicting 1900 to the present highlights additional transportation systems, including New Jersey Rapid Transit (Trolley), and the burgeoning business and industry of Mahwah. The ongoing exhibit, “Blandina Bayard Trading Post,” demonstrates how Mahwah’s first trading post operated and relates the trading activities between the settlers and the Native Americans from the area. Part of this exhibit includes artifacts found on the property in an archaeological dig. “Winters for All Seasons” tells the story of the extraordinary legacy of the Winter family of Mahwah. A century ago, Mahwah was a rural community. This exhibit features the A.J. Winter General Store, which was located in what was the heart of Mahwah and is complete with pot belly stove, wall telephone, and all the items you would have found for sale in this popular gathering place where people shopped and gathered to discuss the latest news.
