Local Rotarians support medical facilities in Haiti
The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club has been a great supporter of relief efforts in Haiti and recently made a significant contribution to Students for Haiti to help restore medical services in several rural areas of the country. The club has a long-standing involvement in Haiti, including strong relationships with various NGOs and sponsorship of ongoing projects. In two rural areas of Haiti, Students for Haiti has teamed up with medical workers who are coping with damaged facilities, a lack of supplies and swelling ranks of patients moving to the country from Port au Prince and other cities. Students for Haiti will use the generous donation from the Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club to help restore and expand several clinics.
The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club is a member of Rotary International and sponsors activities that benefit both the local community and international public service projects, including a school, clinic, and orphanage in Haiti. The club provides extensive support locally for the Center for Food Action and Habitat for Humanity, and offers scholarships to local students. Members also run the children’s rides at Ramsey Day, Upper Saddle River Day, and Mahwah Day, with all proceeds going toward the club’s charitable activities. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club holds its weekly meetings on Mondays at 12:15 p.m. at Houlihan’s in Ramsey. New members are always welcome. Those (continued on page 17)
