Obituaries
Frank L. Costa of Toms River, formerly of Mahwah, died Oct. 19. He was 78. Before retiring in 1997, he was employed as a foreman for Rhone Poulenc in Lakewood. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Toms River, and a volunteer at Cedar Glen. He is survived by his wife Virginia Forshay Costa, his children Mitchel Costa, Ronald De Vogel, Richard De Vogel, and Lisa Carling, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Growney Funeral Home in Forked River. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1937 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08731. Jennie Di Paola, nee Inserillo, of Allendale, formerly of Mahwah, Suffern, New York, and Tarpon Springs, Florida, died on Oct. 14. She was 94. She is survived by her husband Anthony Di Paola, her children Kim Anton, AJ Inserillo, Patti Stander, Meri Halbohm, 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Anthony Inserillo, and seven siblings. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Devin Iacono of Vernon, formerly of Wyckoff and Parsippany, died Oct. 15. He was 39. He was employed as an area manager for Aquent in Parsippany for 14 years. He was a member of the Unitarian Universal Fellowship in Newton. He is survived by his wife Kim Nickisher Iacono, his son Luke Iacono, his mother Eileen Iacono of Wyckoff, and his siblings Alana Iacono of New York, Jonna Iacono of Rhode Island, and Adair Iacono of New York. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Bryan L. Johnson of Mahwah died Oct. 17. He was 54. Before retiring in 2008, he was a CPA, and a partner with Fire Systems, Inc. He is a graduate of Northern Highlands Regional High School and Pace University. He is survived by his wife Lynn (nee Hagstrom), his children Kathlyn, and Laurie Beamon, his mother Wanda, and his siblings Charlene Whalen, Kenneth, Edward, Wayne, Karla Chonkar, Timothy, and Daniel. Before retiring, he was employed with the Allendale Water Company for 37 years. He is survived by his wife Cathy, his brother George Schust, his mother and father in law Pat and Larry Moskowitz, his sisters-in-law Margaret Gonzalez of Phoenix, Arizona, and Debbie Harvey, his Godson Max, and many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was 97. She was the oldest member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood. She was an artist and well known in her field of counted cross stitch, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She is survived by her children John J. Smith, Alex Smith, Anne C, Melvin, and Alan C. Smith, five grandchildren, several greatgrandchildren, and her siblings William Purdie of Butler, and Christine Watts of Scotland. She was predeceased by her husband James J. He is survived by his wife June Tireman (nee Esposito), his daughters Jennifer Ivancich, and Jessica Ivancich, five grandchildren, and his mother Antoinette (nee Costa), and his brothers James, Craig, and Scott. He was predeceased by his father James Tireman. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Flora Tretola of Wyckoff, formerly of Maywood, died Oct. 19. She was 93. Before raising her family, she was a legal secretary at Mainardi and Mainardi in Paterson. She is survived by her daughter Arleen Cantela of Wyckoff, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. This program, which will run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., teaches parents how to talk to their children about drugs and alcohol. The 15-Minute Child Break is a one-hour, interactive, multimedia presentation presented by the Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey and is based on current research that will inform and encourage parents, educators, and caregivers to effectively communicate with children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
