Musical trio to perform The City Winds Trio will perform selected pieces by Ibert, Borodin, Mozart, Haydn, and Jean Chatillon on Sunday, Oct. 24. The concert will be held at 2 p.m. in the Winter Room at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road. This free concert will be presented by Crispian Fordham on flute, Meredyth Coleman on oboe, and Yuki Higashi on bassoon. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. Adult sports programs welcome players Mahwah women over age 21 are invited to participate in Wednesday Night Volleyball. Learn the do’s and don’ts of proper networking while celebrating Halloween. The evening’s business card exchange will feature skits on how to network, including “Halloween Horror” illustrations. Influenza vaccine clinic planned The Mahwah Board of Health will conduct its annual influenza vaccination program Oct. 22 at the Mahwah Senior Citizens Center, 475 Corporate Drive. Mahwah residents age 65 and over, and residents with chronic medical conditions who present a doctor’s note are eligible. Pre-registration is required. Call the health department at (201) 529-5757 and select Prompt 2. Callers should have their Medicare cards in hand at the time of preregistration. HMO participants are not eligible for this program. Residents who have HMO insurance coverage must contact their private physician for an immunization. Annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method for preventing influenza virus infection and its complications. The vaccine is formulated to protect against strains of the virus that are expected to be circulating this year, and will include protection against the H1N1 strain. Board seeks volunteers The Mahwah Board of Health is organizing a local team of residents and medical personnel who live or work in Mahwah and are available to volunteer in the event of a public health emergency. Both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers are needed, including nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, physician’s assistants, pharmacists, veterinarians, dentists, data entry personnel, interpreters, telephone staffers, interviewers, runners, clerical support staff, and crowd control personnel. Halloween Parade set Mahwah residents are invited to come out in costume for the Oct. 31 Halloween Parade and Haunted House at Commodore Perry Field. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. There will be prizes, treats, and a spooky good time. Church celebrates anniversary Ramapo Reformed Church, which is now marking its 225th Anniversary, will offer two narrated tours of the church and cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 30. The 15-Minute Child Break is a onehour, interactive, multimedia presentation presented by the Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey and is based on current research that will inform and encourage parents, educators, and caregivers to effectively communicate with children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. BVMI, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, provides free primary medical care to Bergen County residents who are working and earn between 100% and 200% of the prevailing federal poverty guideline and have no health insurance of any kind. Since opening at 241 Moore Street in Hackensack 10 months ago, almost 400 patients have been treated in over 1,000 medical visits. Patients are seen by volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. BVMI is completely dependent on contributed income from individuals, business, and foundation grants.
