October 13, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 9 Ramsey Docent details history of borough’s Old Stone House Carol Hackbarth, senior docent at the historical Old Stone House in Ramsey, recently addressed the Senior Fellowship group at the First Presbyterian Church. She shared detailed information and pictures of the Dutch colonial farmhouse that was built more than 270 years ago. About 58 years ago, the house was going to be demolished until several groups, including the Ramsey Woman’s Club, sent letters and petitions to the New Jersey Department of Transportation to ask that the building be spared. The Old Stone House is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places. An Open House at the venerable structure at 538 Island Road will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24. At that time, an Apple Fest and an old cider press demonstration will take place. On Dec. 5, Saint Nicholas Day, all parents are invited to bring their children to a celebration at the Old Stone House from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call Paul Simpson, president of the Ramsey Historical Association, at (201) 327-4042. Department sets 31 Cent Scoop Night The Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its fifth annual “31 Cent Scoop Night” with the support of Baskin Robbins at Interstate Shopping Center. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Ramsey Fire Department will be on hand to share fire prevention information and provide goodies for children. Face painting will also be available for children of all ages. As in the past, the department members will assist families with tours of fire trucks, including Ramsey’s first motorized fire engine, and will give fire fighting demonstrations. Families are asked to park in the Interstate parking lot below the Baskin Robbins. The ice cream store is located on Franklin Turnpike. The 31 Cent Scoop Night is the last fire department event before its Home for the Holidays event, which will be held Dec. 4. All groups that wish to participate in this year’s holiday event may contact the fire department through its website at rfdhomefortheholidays.com. There is no charge to be a part of the holiday festivities. Schools, Scouts, recreation groups, houses of worship, and others are all invited to join in with tables along Main Street or by participating in the parade. since 1978 LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, INC.
