Holy Cross offers Thanksgiving service Holy Cross Lutheran Church will celebrate Thanksgiving with a worship service and Holy Communion on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The theme of the service will be “For Everything Else Give Thanks.” The church is located at the corner of West Ramapo Avenue and Route 202 North in Mahwah. Menorah Lighting coming up On Thursday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m., the giant menorah on display outside the Mahwah Town Hall will be lit with the help of Mahwah Mayor Richard J. Martel. Following the lighting, an indoor program at the Senior Center will include piping-hot latkes, refreshments, a children’s craft, and festive Chanukah music. Upcoming Donor Concert to feature Cornucopia Quintet The Cornucopia Quintet, featuring Steve Badalamenti, will perform at the Mahwah Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. Badalamenti will play American standards in the Big Band style including “My Funny Valentine,” “Moonlight in Vermont,” “Trumpeter’s Lullaby,” “Bye, Bye Blackbird,” and “It’s a Wonderful World.” This event was made possible through the generous contributions of concert audiences. This program is free. No tickets or

Tree Lighting announced The Township of Mahwah will hold its Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Festival on Sunday, Dec. 5 at the municipal building on Corporate Drive. The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Senior Center with the Joyce Kilmer Choir. Santa will arrive at 5 p.m. to light the tree in front of the municipal building and hear requests for holiday gifts in the Senior Center, where refreshments will be served. ‘The Villain’s Moustache’ slated Catskill Puppet Theater will perform “The Villain’s Moustache” on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library. This traditional old-time melodrama features colorful two-and-a-half foot tall rod puppets with animated mouths, eyes, and eyebrows. The puppets harmonize on many original tunes and a few old-time Tin Pan Alley numbers. This program is free. No tickets or registration are necessary. Seats are on a “first come” basis. Clothing Closet plans Bag Sale The December Bag Sale at the Clothing Closet Ministry is set for Saturday, Dec. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The selection of clothing for adults and children will include sweaters, jeans, sneakers, boots and shoes, blouses, sweatshirts, slacks, and more. Shoppers may fill a bag for $3 and receive a free jacket or coat while supplies last. The Clothing Closet Ministry is located in the rear of the education building of Ramapo Reformed Church, on the corner of Island Road and West Ramapo Avenue. Model railroad exhibit opens The Donald Cooper HO Model Railroad
at the Mahwah Museum will be open for special hours on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. for four weeks beginning Nov. 26. This recently expanded layout features a carnival, cityscapes, mountainous terrain, the Great Falls of Paterson, two subway lines, a four-track run-through passenger terminal that is based on Newark’s Pennsylvania Station track plan, a freight bypass around the passenger terminal, some very intricate railroad junctions, and Thomas on his own special track. Located at 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah, the museum is also open Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per adult; those under age18 are admitted free. Colonial Christmas Concert set Colonial Balladeers Ridley and Anne Enslow will present a Colonial Christmas Concert at the Ramapo Reformed Church, 100 Island Road in Mahwah, on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. This concert will celebrate the 225th anniversary of the founding of the church in 1785. This event will be co-hosted by the Mahwah Museum Society. The Enslows, dressed in costumes of the 1770s, sing and play a 1776 fiddle and a hammered dulcimer, transporting listeners to the earliest days of the Republic. Refreshments will follow the concert. Parking is free. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and are available at the church, weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon, or at the Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike,
Mahwah on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets may also be ordered by mail from either location and will be confirmed by e-mail and held for pickup at the door or ordered by e-mailing director@mahwahmuseum.org. Life of Mother Teresa to be discussed Not by Bread Alone, a spiritual book discussion group, will meet Sunday, Nov. 28 at 5 p.m. at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. This month’s selection is “Mother Teresa: A Simple Path.” In her own words, Mother Teresa shares the thoughts and experiences that led her to do her extraordinary charitable work. Toy Drive planned Ridgewood Moving Services will hold its annual Toy Drive from through Dec. 1.
