Hockey Association hosts Devils fundraiser The Ramsey Hockey Association has a limited number of tickets to the New Jersey Devils vs. Florida Panthers game at Prudential Center on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at 3 p.m. On the program that day will be a special appearance by Ramsey’s Mites on Ice during the first intermission. Book Lover’s Calendar available The Friends of Ramsey Library’s 2011 Book Lover’s Calendar is now available. The calendar, which recommends a book of the day for the entire year, makes a great gift. The calendars are $8 each and may be purchased at the library’s temporary location at 171 Lake Street. All proceeds benefit FORL in support of children’s programs at the Ramsey Library. Toy Drive underway The Weichert Office in Ramsey is participating in the company’s 32nd Annual Toy Drive this holiday season. Members of the community are invited to drop off new, unwrapped toys now through Dec. 10 at the Ramsey office, located at 5 South Franklin Turnpike. Donated toys will be collected on behalf of Ramsey Police Department. In the past, this office has collected more than 700 toys, games, dolls, and books for area children in need. The toys will be delivered throughout the holidays in conjunction with local charities that assist financially and physically disadvantaged children. Carr, Old Testament scholar and author, will speak on “Light in the Darkness: Rethinking Advent in Light of Isaiah’s Prophecy” at the Adult Nurture Series. Dr. Orr’s program will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7:45 p.m. at the Ramsey First Presbyterian Church. The year-long program was developed with four Presbyterian Churches (USA) congregations in the Presbytery of the Palisades. A professor of Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, Dr. Carr’s research interests include formation and shape of Bible, sexuality and gender in the Bible, and the emergence of scripture in the Jewish and Christian traditions. Men’s clothing sought for H.O.P.E. mission The First Presbyterian Church is holding a Mission Clothing Drive during the month of November. Gently used men’s clothing suitable for a variety of work settings is needed for H.O.P. E. in Hackensack. The mission provides support for men who are recently released from prison and are seeking employment. Items from sports shirts to three-piece suits are needed. Only clean clothes that are in good repair will be transported to the H.O.P.E. center.

Leisure Club plans Christmas luncheon The Leisure Club will travel by bus to the New Royal Manor in Garfield on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for a family-style luncheon and show, “The Magic of Christmas.” The event will feature two bands and dancing to the music of the Jersey Dreamers.
