Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES While most people are making plans for Thanksgiving, the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce is already looking ahead to May 1, 2001, the date of the Fourth Annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk. Sponsorship opportunities are available, and the Chamber encourages more sponsors, and more participants, to join in the upcoming run/walk, including representatives from local school and recreation league teams. The 2011 event will begin at the Waldwick High School turf field. Registration will be held between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m. at the Waldwick High School track at the corner of Wyckoff and Hopper avenues, and the race will begin at 9 a.m. The 5K course, which has been sanctioned by the USATF as a Grand Prix Event, includes rolling hills, a scenic park, and a finish at the track. No pets, roller blades, bikes, or skateboards will be permitted during the 5K; Chamber already planning for May 5K Run/1Mile Walk however, strollers will be permitted during the 1 Mile Fun Walk. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Event planners plan to have a DJ on hand to provide motivation for the runners, and opportunities for those in attendance to win prizes. The run and walk will be held rain or shine. No refunds will be given. Proceeds will benefit local organizations. Despite the inclement weather for the 2010 event, the 5K drew approximately 300 runners to the certified course. Stan Kowalski, who has directed the run since its inception three years ago, was responsible for attaining the certification for the course. Group discounts, family discounts, and business referral discounts are available. For additional information about this upcoming event, visit waldwickchamber. com/5k-run.
