McMahon The Franklin Lakes Police Department recently received the AAA Traffic Safety Award of Excellence at the AAA North Jersey Community Traffic Safety luncheon held in Paterson. The borough’s police department was recognized for conducting roving DWI (driving while intoxicated) patrols and combating aggressive driving and other dangerous traffic offenses through enforcement and education activities in the community. The department was also cited for participating in the Safety Town program for children. Traffic Safety Officer Bob Lyon explained that Safety Town is a school district program that the police department participates in by visiting the schools and explaining various safety issues. According to Mayor Maura DeNicola, over 100 towns participated in the annual program and the borough was one of 10 towns to receive the Award of Excellence, which is the highest recognition possible. DeNicola expressed her appreciation to the police department, saying, “Special thanks to Traffic Safety Officer Bob Lyon along with all the members of our police department for making the streets of Franklin Lakes as safe as possible for our families.” The Award of Excellence is presented to selected communities for their outstanding traffic safety program activities.
