Participants from Ramsey and other Literacy Volunteer Libraries will receive training, books, and supplies for free. Registration is limited to 25 people. Tutors from other libraries must pay $45. Leisure Club plans Christmas luncheon The Leisure Club will travel by bus to the New Royal Manor in Garfield on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for a family-style luncheon and show, “The Magic of Christmas.” The event will feature two bands and dancing to the music of the Jersey Dreamers. Church slates old-fashioned Holiday Fair Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located on the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will host its annual Holiday Fair Preview Gala on Friday, Nov. 12 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The $7 donation includes wine and hors d’oeuvres, a special auction, and first dibs shopping. Gently used men’s clothing suitable for a variety of work settings is needed for H.O.P. E. in Hackensack. The mission provides support for men who are recently released from prison and are seeking employment. Items from sports shirts to three-piece suits are needed. Only clean clothes that are in good repair will be transported to the H.O.P.E. center. Clothing donations may be left in the narthex of the church at 15 Shuart Lane. Reid to address Garden Club Dale Reid, horticultural consultant for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Bergen County, will address the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey. Reid will discuss the fall garden and the 10 most common gardening mistakes. The speaker is a teacher and lecturer for local garden groups and the Master Gardener program. Play center hosts Open House The New Park ‘N Play, an indoor play center located in Ramsey, will host an Open House for families during the week of Nov. 8. Registration for the upcoming winter season, November through April, is now underway. Open to all children from birth through age six, the center offers unlimited play from Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Membership is $225 per family. This non-profit organization is run by volunteer parents, and provides a creative, safe, and clean indoor play center for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. UNICO sets Charity di Vino The Greater Ramsey Chapter of UNICO National will host its annual Charity di Vino Wine Tasting on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. This year’s event will feature over 65 wines, Belgian beers, domestic and imported cheeses, pasta and bruschetta stations, Italian pastries, and cakes from Hoboken’s own “Cake Boss.” Guests will include “Cooking with Nonna” online celebrity chef sensation Rossella Rago, and CBS News food expert Tony Tantillo, who will offer samples of Tantillo’s imported olive oils.
