(continued from page 3) to mitigate the problem, but we want to improve it.” Councilman Samuel Alderisio offered the opinion that $6 million would not be sufficient, but Jaworski said his client had done a cost estimate to determine that figure. Councilwoman Lisa DiGiulio said her biggest concerns were the projected water use, how the township’s emergency services would be able to get to the site in an emergency, and if the rezoning would negatively impact the lifestyle in Mahwah. “I’m not against retail,” she emphasized, “but there has to be a plan that won’t change the township’s lifestyle and require more services.” Jaworski responded that the draft ordinance provides for the construction of at least one emergency services building on the site with equipment approved by the planning board with the advice and consent of the township’s emergency services. In addition, private security would be provided before and after the site is open each day based on the square footage of retail that is open at the time. Jaworski agreed to place paid advertisements in the county and local newspapers to announce the public meeting on Nov. 4 and said his client would agree to videotaping the meeting for the township’s cable channel for those who cannot attend the meeting.
