November 3, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 15 Mahwah Regional Chamber Connection The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce is again organizing WinterFest, an eight-week community celebration scheduled to begin on Dec. 3 and continue through Jan. 29, 2011. The theme of this year’s festival is “helping families in need.” Part of the proceeds collected from sponsorships will go to the Center for Food Action and to the Mahwah Museum for its ongoing development of familyfriendly, hands-on displays. “I am delighted that our Chamber is able to give back to the community, especially at a time when so many families are struggling to make ends meet,” said Chamber President Annette Freund. “This year’s WinterFest is full of new, family-friendly activities for all ages, most of which are free.” The festival will include charity drives, contests for adults and children, restaurant specials, historical exhibits at the Mahwah Museum, and much more. Some of the activities being planned include: • Opening Ceremony at Veteran’s Park, featuring the annual lighting of the Veteran’s Tree and arrival of Mr. Snowman. Refreshments will be served at neighboring Boiling Springs Savings Bank, 6 East Ramapo Avenue. • Pearl Harbor memorial service, with wreaths placed on the tombstone in Veteran’s Park. • Spread the Cheer program, featuring charity drives at local businesses. • Business/residential lighting and essay contests, with prizes for the winners. • Restaurant specials to help promote local eateries. • A Public Spirit Showcase with wine and cheese, to help promote local non-profit organizations. • Special exhibits at the Mahwah Museum, Old Station & Caboose, and more. WinterFest business sponsors are needed ($100 to $5,000), as are family sponsors ($25 per family). Those who sponsor WinterFest help families in need, support the work of the Mahwah Museum, and help maintain the lighting system on the Veteran’s Tree for years to come. Sponsors of last year’s festival paid for the cost of lighting the Veteran’s Tree in Mahwah’s historical downtown. The large maple tree is lit for all national holidays and will again be the site of the festival’s Opening Ceremony, set for Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in Veteran’s Park. The tree will stay lit for the entire festival. WinterFest events will continue on Dec. 5, when the community is invited to the Mahwah Township Tree Lighting.
