The Rev. Patrick Pindar Council, #3962, Ramsey Knights of Columbus, recently honored several public safety first responders at the 33rd Annual Shield Awards. This year’s recipients are: EMT Annette Young, Ramsey Ambulance Corps; Captain Gregory Hewitt, Ramsey Fire Department; Staff Planner Ernie Larrat, Ramsey Office of Emergency Management; Sergeant Kevin Cherven, Ramsey Police Department; and Squadwoman Kelly Vriesema, Ramsey Rescue Squad. Church and chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, delivered the invocation. Grand Knight Stephen Adams welcomed the gathering of about 100 attendees. The Knights of Columbus Shield Awards were started in May 1977 to honor an outstanding member of the Ramsey Fire Department and the Ramsey Police Department. Over the years, the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, OEM, and Rescue Squad have been included. Each agency chooses its own recipient, using various selection processes.
