Performances will be at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Sharp Theater, located in the Berrie Center for the Arts at Ramapo College, Mahwah. This year’s gala will include excerpts from Act I of “Raymonda,” a renowned classical ballet; “Pinocchio,” a newly choreographed ballet for younger children; and a divertissement of character dances. A number of guest artists associated with professional ballet companies such as Festival Ballet, Idaho Ballet, Morphoses, and Kansas City Ballet will perform alongside the pupils of Petrov Ballet School. As a special treat for the audience, the matinee performance will feature a guest appearance by internationally renowned stars and soloists of American Ballet Theater. This combination of professionalism and a young talent on the rise will make the Petrov Ballet Gala a must- Petrov Ballet School announces Annual Spring Gala see memorable experience. Petrov Ballet’s advanced students will perform the excerpts from “Raymonda.” The selections include dramatic music by Russian composer Alexander Glazunov and with the grace and technical virtuosity of the dancers. Among the soloists joining Petrov Ballet for the first time, are guest artists Andrew Taft (courtesy of Idaho Ballet) and Nolan Seda. Returning for the second year is Erica Chipp of Festival Ballet, who will join Eugene Petrov, artistic director of Petrov Ballet, in the principal roles of Raymonda and Jean de Brienne. “Pinocchio” is an original short-story ballet choreographed by Eugene Petrov. It depicts a world-renowned story with all its famous characters. Guest artists Matthew Powell (former principal dancer with Kansas City Ballet) and Abraham Miha will be portraying the energetic carnival master Magnifico and the Evil Coachman. With beautiful scenery and props and colorful costumes, this ever-lasting classic story will be a perfect way to introduce the world of ballet to a younger audience.
