Walk-a-thon fundraiser set A Walk-a-thon to benefit musculoskeletal disorders will be held at Saint Paul’s Church, 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey, on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. Participants will walk, stroll, or walk their dogs from Saint Paul’s to Finch Park. The two-mile event is sponsored by the Pediatric Orthopedic Research Group, and will aid pediatric research and the care of children with musculoskeletal disorders. Registration is $10 per person. All are welcome. Junior Woman’s Club holds fundraiser On May 14, The Ramsey Junior Woman’s Club will hold a fundraiser at Chili’s on Route 17 North, Ramsey from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. That day, the restaurant will donate 10 percent from the bill of any patron who presents a copy of the Relay for Life flyer. Copies of the flyer can be found at www.RamseyJuniors.com or call Michelle at (201) 6812001 for more information. Relay for Life is an overnight event organized by the American Cancer Society. This year, the relay will be held May 21 at the Ramsey High School field. Woman’s Club plan events The Woman’s Club of Ramsey will hold its Installation Dinner on May 25 at the Masonic Lodge on the corner of Lake Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. The club’s members plan to sell strawberry shortcake on June 15 at the Farmer’s Market to be held at the train station. The club recently welcomed new member Judy Cusick. Cusick was sponsored by member Pat Bernuis. Club members Kathy Muscignat and Jane Vilmar garnered distinction at the Ramapo District Achievement Day/ District Spring Conference heldat the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. Muscignat won a gold ribbon for her Lake Tahoe, Nevada photograph, and Vilmar took first place in the advanced division for her Nantucket, Massachusetts photograph.
Heirloom Tomato Transplant Sale set The Woman’s Club of Ramsey will hold its Seventh Annual Heirloom Tomato Transplant Sale on May 15. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Masonic Lodge on the corner of Lake Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. There will be a large variety of heirloom tomato plants offered and a limited offering of some heritage hybrid varieties, the most famous of which is the Ramapo Tomato. In addition to the tomato transplants there will be a great selection of herbs, eggplant, squash, cucumber, and pepper plants. Preorders can be picked up during the day of the sale. This annual sale is a fund raiser for the Woman’s Club of Ramsey and helps to raise money for its charitable work. Gardeners host Gagen Kathleen Gagen will discuss how to grow and care for peonies at the Ramsey Area Garden Club’s meeting Tuesday, May 11 at 6:45 p.m. The group will meet at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue. Leisure Club to install officers The Ramsey Leisure Club will install its officers on Tuesday, May 11 at noon at a luncheon at Pizette’s in Ramsey. The new slate of officers includes: president, Diane Beggio; vice president, Rosemarie Gostissa; secretary, Marian Peer; and treasurer, Pauline Crescenzo. Connie Galasso is trip chairman, and Pat Forbes will the new greeter. Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church. Ramsey’s senior residents are invited to attend. Ramsey Responds sets Spring Cleanup Ramsey Responds will hold its Spring Cleanup on Sat-
urday, May 15 (rain date: May 16) outside of the Ramsey firehouse at the Main Street train station. The organization will be accepting gently used appliances and household items from 8 to 10 a.m. For early drop-offs, call (201) 3124843. Donated items will be available to recipients at 11 a.m. The organization will not be accepting clothing for this particular drive, however, any donations of bicycles, toys, baby equipment, bedding, and working appliances and house wares will be appreciated. Anyone who wishes to donate large appliances or large furniture may bring a photo of the item(s) to the train station to be posted on a bulletin board during the event. Donations to Ramsey Responds are tax deductible, and all contributions are used to further the group’s effort to provide community assistance. Ramsey Responds also welcomes assistance from student groups interested in performing community service. Ramsey Responds has provided residents and recipients with food, clothing, household items, and financial assistance to help pay medical, rent, and utility bills. The organization also provides aid to students for the high school Senior Gala and school trips to Washington, D.C. Interested residents are invited and encouraged to join the organization. Friends to elect officers The Friends of Ramsey Library’s annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. The following slate of officers will be presented for two-year terms: president, Doris Latham; vice president, Carol Tonnon; secretary, Marilyn Taylor; and treasurer, Pat Confrancisco. The meeting will be held at the temporary library facility at 171 Lake Street, in the Pavilion building. FORL invites the community to this meeting. Once the library renovation is completed, FORL will again sponsor cultural arts programs and book sales in addition special events for children and teens.
