Leisure Club to install officers The Ramsey Leisure Club will install its officers on Tuesday, May 11 at noon at a luncheon at Pizette’s in Ramsey. The new slate of officers includes: president, Diane Beggio; vice president, Rosemarie Gostissa; secretary, Marian Peer; and treasurer, Pauline Crescenzo. Connie Galasso is trip chairman, and Pat Forbes will the new greeter. Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church. Ramsey’s senior residents are invited to attend. Friends to elect officers The Friends of Ramsey Library’s annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. The following slate of officers will be presented for two-year terms: president, Doris Latham; vice president, Carol Tonnon; secretary, Marilyn Taylor; and treasurer, Pat Confrancisco. The meeting will be held at the temporary library facility at 171 Lake Street, in the Pavilion building. FORL invites the community to this meeting. Once the library renovation is completed, FORL will again sponsor cultural arts programs and book sales in addition special events for children and teens. Seniors to see ‘Wicked’ Ramsey Seniors announce events On June 16, the Ramsey Seniors will hold a bus trip to New York City to see the Broadway show “Wicked.” Sign up at borough hall beginning May 17 at 10 a.m. This event is open to Ramsey senior residents. The cost is $80
per person and includes transportation, lunch at Lattanzi Restaurant, and an orchestra seat. Checks should be made payable to Ramsey Recreation. A calendar of monthly events is available at the Finch Park senior center. This event is expected to sell out quickly; reserve early. Ramsey Extended Day registration begins Registration packets for the Ramsey Adult School’s Extended Day for children are now available at all Ramsey district schools and at the adult school office at 256 East Main Street. Extended Day is a before and after school program that provides supervision and enrichment by adult personnel to children in kindergarten through grade five who are enrolled in Hubbard, Tisdale, and Dater schools. Hours of operation includes a before care program that runs from 7 a.m. to school arrival bell and an after school session from school dismissal bell to 6 p.m. The program’s after school agenda offers a flexible schedule that includes clubs, enrichment programs, and quiet homework and study time. For grades six through eight at the middle school, the Extended Day program offers the Smith Study Center, a safe, convenient and affordable place for students to complete their homework and receive assistance on school projects, after school until 5:30 p.m. For more information, call Ramsey Extended Day at (201) 785-2300, extension 21701. Youth group holds Plant Sale The Youth Group at First Presbyterian Church will host a Plant Sale on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 15 Shuart Lane. There will be an assortment of flowers from flats to hanging baskets. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the youth group and the M.A.T.E. summer mission trip. Mother and Me Tea set Children and mothers of all ages are welcome to a Mother and Me Tea at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 22 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Storyteller Julie Sibbald will entertain. Tea, punch, sandwiches, and cookies will be served. Attendees will also make a key chain and decorate a flower pot. The cost will be $5 for adults and $4

Phone (201) 327-3879. Mom and Me Walks to resume The Ramsey Board of Health’s Mom and Me walks will begin on Friday, May 7. The group will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the Interstate entrance to Ramsey’s bike path (by the green posts). The walk will follow the bike path, a safe and flat walkway with several benches. Garden Club hosts Plant Sale The Ramsey Area Garden Club will hold its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old Ramsey Train Station off Main Street. A large variety of annuals and perennials from professional growers and club members will be available. There will be an assortment of hanging baskets, houseplants, and Mother’s Day gift basket for sale. All proceeds benefit the club’s horticultural and educational programs. UNICO presents Texas Hold’em Tournament On May 7, the Greater Ramsey Chapter of UNICO National will hold a charity Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament in Ramsey that will offer entries into World Series of Poker events in Las Vegas, Nevada, as prizes for every player who makes the final table. Each prize of an entry into a WSOP event comes with a Visa gift card to help pay expenses for the trip to Las Vegas. The event will be held Friday, May 7 at the Adorno Fathers Banquet Hall, 575 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., and the tournament will begin promptly at 8 p.m. Advance registration is required. All profits from this event go to support the UNICO’s projects.
