Learn about schoolhouse, Trail Conference The Mahwah Museum will hold its May history lecture “Darlington Schoolhouse and the NY/NJ Trail Conference” on Thursday, May 20. Tours of the schoolhouse will begin at 7 p.m. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in Marion Hall at Immaculate Conception Church, 900 Darlington Avenue. In 2007, Mahwah and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference became joint owners of the schoolhouse and restoration plans are in the works. Mahwah historian Carol Greene will explore the history and architecture of this 1891 building. There will also be a lecture on the history of the NY/NJ Trail Conference. Founded in 1920, this group partnered with the government and private landowners to create, protect, and maintain a network of 1,700 miles of hiking trails in the metropolitan area. Parking is available in the church parking lot. Admission is $3 per person; free for Mahwah Museum members. Dancers welcome newcomers The North Jersey English Country Dancers welcome newcomers to the Sunday afternoon dance set for May 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. All dances are taught and called and the music is live. Attendees may come with or without a partner. The event will be held at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. Chamber celebrates Boy Scout Centennial The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Northern New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America along with Ameriprise Financial, Inc. will host a Business Card Exchange on Tuesday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Boy Scout Service Center, 25 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland. The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The Mahwah Chamber’s Business Card Exchanges give members and anyone else in the area’s business community the chance to meet with others and develop ideas for growth for themselves and the community. Refreshments will be provided. The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. Advance registration is required. Golf Classic planned Tuxedo Park School will host the 2010 TPS Classic at the Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park, New York on Monday, May 24. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, this private championship course has been the site of numerous Metropolitan PGA and amateur events. The outing includes a continental breakfast, lunch on the course, and concludes with cocktails, appetizers, and prizes. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.; shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Foursomes and individual golfers are welcome and sponsorship opportunities are available. Art classes offered to seniors Beginning May 7, art classes will be offered at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center in Midland Park on Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m. Classes are free and open to all Bergen County seniors age 60 and over. Instructor David Steinberg will begin with a still life class using any medium. Steinbert welcomes artists at all levels. Attendees should bring their own materials. Women invited to May Friendship Day May Friendship Day will be celebrated on May 7 from 9:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood. Church women of all faiths are welcome to attend this morning of food and fellowship. There will be a brief worship service and a lively program. This year’s theme is “Living the Vision.” The program will be based on Mitch Albom’s book “Have a Little Faith,” and the discussion will be moderated by Jan Philips from the Religious Society of Friends. Wyckoff Y presents ‘Wizard of Oz’ The Wyckoff YMCA’s Theater Arts Company will present The Wizard Oz” May 13 through 16 at the Y, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Performances will be held on May 13, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m., with a May 15 matinee at 2 p.m. On May 16, performances will be at 1 and 5:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for children under 10 years of age. A limited number of tickets are also available for “Breakfast with Dorothy,” a character breakfast held at the Y on Saturday morning, May 15. Tickets for the breakfast are $12 each and include pancakes, fruit, chocolate milk, coffee, and juice. Attendees should bring a camera to take photos with Dorothy and the other characters. Band offers concert series The Ridgewood Concert Band will wind up its current season with a series of three concerts beginning May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 Monroe Street, Ridgewood. This performance will be followed by two more events when Midwest meets East when The University of Notre Dame Symphonic Band; RCB; and Philip Smith, principal trumpet New York Philharmonic, team up for two special spring concerts. These concerts will be held May 9 at 2 p.m. at Suffern High School in Suffern, New York, and May 10 at 8 p.m. at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. Tickets for all three concerts may be purchased at a discount through the band website, www.ridgewoodband.org or can be purchased at the door. Senior pricing is available. Season subscriptions are also available. Season ticket hold-
