Ramsey
The Ramsey Police Department wishes to alert borough residents that Ramsey has experienced four residential burglaries since Jan. 1. Most of the burglaries have occurred on the west side of the borough and those responsible use similar modes of operation. The burglaries have occurred between 5 and 9 p.m. It is suspected that the crimes occur at dusk or when it becomes dark. Entry is gained through rear windows, either by finding an open window, or by using a rock to break a window to gain entry. In most cases, the bedrooms are targeted and jewelry is taken. Small electronic items have also been stolen. It appears that a motor vehicle is used. The most likely scenario is that the actor or actors park nearby. The vehicle

may be parked on a side street near the burglary scene. These crimes have occurred throughout Bergen County, and the Ramsey Police Department is currently working with other Bergen County Police agencies and with state and federal law enforcement in an attempt to apprehend the actors. Most recently, a Ramsey police officer was instrumental in the arrest of burglars in neighboring Allendale. Unfortunately, these are not the only burglars active in this area. The Ramsey Police Department has also directed both conventional and specialized patrols into the residential areas during times when the burglaries have been occurring. Each officer is briefed on the latest intelligence regarding the area burglaries prior to and during each shift.
Ramsey Police Department asks residents to help prevent burglaries by taking the following actions: Make sure your house has lights on at dusk and in the early evening. Many of the houses that have been burglarized were dark. Use timers to turn on lights to illuminate the house (continued on page 11)
