Warren B. Cook Sr. of Mahwah and Seaside Park, formerly of Wayne, died March 25. He was 79. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had worked for the Continental Insurance Companies before establishing Cook Insurance Associates, Inc. of Ridgewood. Prior to retiring, he was affiliated with Eastern Insurors in Midland Park. He was past president of the Bergen County Independent Insurance Agents Association. In 1991, he was honored as the Insurance Man of the Year for the State of New Jersey. For the past 30 years, he was president of the Frederick A. Cook Society, which recognizes the polar exploration accomplishments of his great uncle Dr. Cook including his attainment of the North Pole in 1908. He was a member of the Explorers Club of New York. He is survived by his children Warren B. Cook Jr. of Pequannock, and Marion Ahearn of Ramsey, three grandchildren, and his sister Carol Jean Kissane. He was predeceased by his wife Joan (nee Kraus), and his brothers William and Donald. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Gallant, nee Taylor, of Whiting, formerly of Ramsey and Ridgewood, died March 22. She had been a volunteer at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. She is survived by her husband George of Whiting, her sons George of Pine Bush, New York, Stephen of Brewster, Massachusetts, and John of Point Pleasant Beach, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Gladys L. Gernhardt, nee Muccino, of Mahwah, formerly of Upper Saddle River, died March 18. She was 82. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church of Mahwah, and a member at the Mahwah Senior Center. Levin, nee Renn, of Ramsey died Feb. 20. She was in her 90s. Before retiring in 1999, she had been a nurse for 37 years. She was a member of the Rush Baptist Church in Danville, Pennsylvania. She had been a member of the Ramsey Woman’s Club and the Ramsey PTA. She was a member of the Ramsey Golf and Country Club Estates. She is survived by her children Jack D. Levin of Ramsey, David T. Levin of Raleigh, North Carolina, Michael R. Levin of West Simsbury, Connecticut, and Carol Levin Watson of Ramsey, eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jack N. Levin and her 15 brothers and sisters. Arrangements were made by Farrow Funeral Home in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. John A. Nochta of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, formerly of Mahwah, Brick, and Lodi, died March 22. He was 90. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He worked as a nurseryman and then as a deliveryman for Suffern Distributors in Mahwah. He is survived by his daughters Judith Ann Reef of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, and Janice Annette Callahan of Long Valley, four grandchildren, and his brother Ted Nochta of Garfield. He was predeceased by his wife Hedwig Mary Nochta (nee Ober). Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Stephen Thodore Anthony Renda of Midland Park died March 17. He was 71. Before retiring, he had worked for the New Jersey Department of Labor. She operated a sheep and grain farm, Temora, for over 30 years in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She managed two restaurants for the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company from 1934 to 1942. She was a charter member of the board of trustees of The Valley Hospital and

was made an honorary trustee in 1978. She was a member of the alumni association at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and a recipient of the school’s Doris Crockett Medal for distinguished service to college and community in 1992. She was active at Bergen Community College, where she helped develop and oversee the Nursing Committee. She had been president of the board of directors of Nursing Service, Inc., for over 40 years. She was the eldest and longest tenured member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their children. Arrangements were made by C.C. She had been a cashier at the A&P of Midland Park for many years. She is survived by her children James J. Van Ry of Butler, Douglas Van Ry of Jacksonville, Florida, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and her sister Doris Winkler of Oakland. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius Van Ry. He was a manager at Ciba-Geigy in Suffern, New York for 21 years. He is survived by his wife Nancy Walsh (nee Barrett), his children Thomas Walsh of Mahwah, Jeanne Tyler of Airmont, New York, Kathleen Walsh of Mahwah, Michael Walsh of Randolph, Erin Walsh of Portland, Oregon, and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Nancy Bird and his brothers John P. and Joseph. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. She was a professor at Edward Williams College in the early 1980s. She had worked as an administrative assistant at Fordham University in the early 1960s. She was a civil service employee in 1949-1952 in G-2 and CID assigned to the US Army in Okinawa, Japan. She later worked as an administrative assistant for the US Army G-3 during 1952-1953 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. She was the past president of the North Jersey Doll Club. She is survived by her husband Trenton E. Wright Sr., her children Trenton Wright Jr. of Connecticut, and Christine of Ramsey, two grandchildren and her sisters Catherine Giordano and Marilyn Cenatiempo.
