Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • March 31, 2010 Ramsey UNICO presents Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament No limit, Texas hold ‘em poker exploded into the national consciousness in 2003 when an unknown 27-year old amateur, appropriately named Chris Moneymaker, won the World Series of Poker Main Event, defeating scores of professionals and earning millions in prize money in the process. Moneymaker became an instant hero to the hundreds of thousands of recreational poker players who shuffle up and deal in friendly and not-so-friendly games at home or club or on the Internet and who fancy themselves “ready for the big time.” If you number yourself among that group, here’s a chance to live your dream. The Greater Ramsey Chapter of UNICO National is sponsoring a charity poker tournament in Ramsey that will offer entries into World Series of Poker events in Las Vegas, Nevada, as prizes for every player who makes the final table. Each prize of an entry into a WSOP event comes with a Visa gift card to help pay expenses for the trip to Las Vegas. UNICO National is an Italian-American service organization that supports countless charities -- causes like cancer research, mental health, helping senior citizens, providing college scholarships, supporting children with disabilities, counseling children who have lost loved ones, and more. Tournament buy-in is $250 ($300 after April 30), for which a player gets $5,000 in chips. Those who “bust out” early and want a chance for a comeback may avail themselves of “re-buys,” which will be offered at $150 during the first 90 minutes of play. Professional dealers will make sure all play proceeds quickly and according to the rules. Famous-name coffee and Italian pastries top off the meal. Non-playing guests are invited to partake in the food and fun for $50 a person. The event will be held in Ramsey on Friday, May 7 at the Adorno Fathers Banquet Hall, 575 Darlington Avenue. Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., and the tournament will begin promptly at 8 p.m. Advance registration is required.
