Emergency service personnel tackle storm damage
The Ramsey Police Department and borough emergency service personnel responded to 75 calls for service during the recent two-day storm that brought heavy rain and high winds to the area. During the 16-hour period from 2 p.m. on March 13 through 6 a.m. on March 14, Ramsey’s emergency responders received four calls for residential burglar alarms and nine calls for commercial burglar alarms. (No actual burglaries had taken place.) In addition, local responders received nine calls concerning damaged trees, wires, or telephone poles; pumped out nine basements; and received two reports of damaged street signs. Multiple streets were closed to through traffic, including Refy Avenue at Armstrong Avenue, where trees and a telephone pole came in contact with live wires, leaving local homes without power; Pine
Street near 186, where a tree came in contact with live wires; and East Main Street, where a side driveway leading to rear apartments was blocked by a large tree resting on live wires. Significant calls for service included damage to an Eton Court home caused by a large tree that broke through the roof. The building inspector declared that home condemned. Large trees also damaged homes on Canterbury Drive and on Nottingham Road.
