Holy Week at Old Paramus Reformed Church Holy Week at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will include a number of services. A Hosanna Day Family Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Palm Sunday, March 28, and will include the distribution of palms. On Maundy Thursday, April 1, join the congregation at 7:30 p.m. for a service of personal meditation, prayers, and music held in the style of the Taize ecumenical, international community in Taize, France. This community was founded in 1940 for reconciliation among divided Christians and divided peoples. Communion will be served to all who wish to participate. Two services will be held on Good Friday, April 2. The first of these services will be held at 11:30 a.m. and will include meditations on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” The second service will be a Tenebrae: A Service of Darkness at 7:30 p.m. The celebration of Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday, April 4, will take place at 10 a.m. This service will feature a sermon by Pastor Marsden and special music by the choir, organ, and brass. This celebration will conclude with the singing of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” The church is located at 660 East Glen Avenue at Route 17 South. Phone (201) 444-5933. Cedar Hill Church celebrates season Cedar Hill Church in Wyckoff will hold a Communion Service at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 2. Rev. Norman Brown address the topic: “Did they have to crucify him?” On Easter Sunday, April 4, there will be a 10:30 a.m. service with special music by the Cedar Hill Choir and the Kingdom Kids Choir. Rev. Brown will discuss: “So what really happed at the tomb?” Cedar Hill Church is located at 422 Cedar Hill Avenue in Wyckoff. Contact the church office at (201) 447-5300. Grace United celebrates Holy Week Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff invites everyone to experience “Grace at Easter.” For Palm Sunday, March 28, there will be two traditional services at 9 and 11 a.m. and a contemporary service, also at 9 a.m. There will be a live reenactment of Last Supper on Holy Thursday, April 1 at 8 p.m. and Holy Communion. Also planned for Holy Thursday is a special service in the chapel at noon. A Service of Tenebrae will be held on Good Friday, April 2 at 8 p.m. Traditional services on Easter Sunday, April 4, will be at 9 and 11 a.m. There will also be a contemporary service held at 9 a.m. Grace United Methodist Church is located at 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff. Call (201) 891-4595. Holy Week at Nativity The Church of the Nativity in Midland Park will celebrate Holy Week with several services. On Saturday, March 27 there will be a blessing and distribution of palms with the procession beginning at 4:45 p.m. at the chapel. Eucharistic liturgies for Palm Sunday, March 28, will be
held at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and noon. Holy Thursday, April 1, will start with morning prayer at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. The Feast of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 9 p.m. to midnight in the chapel. Note that there will not be a 12:10 p.m. service on Holy Thursday. On Good Friday, April 2 , morning prayers in the chapel will be at 8:30 a.m. Family Stations of the Cross, held outdoors if weather permits, will begin at 11 a.m. The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death will be at 3 p.m., and the Living Stations of the Cross at 7:30 p.m. in the church. There will not be a 12:10 p.m. service on Good Friday. On Holy Saturday, April 3, there will be morning prayers at 8:30 a.m. The Easter Vigil will be held at 8:15 p.m. with the Blessing of the New Fire and Baptismal Water. There will not be a 5 p.m. Mass on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday (April 4) liturgies will be at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and noon. Church of the Nativity is located at 315 Prospect Street in Midland Park. On Palm Sunday, March 28, there will be services at 9 and 11 a.m. The Agape Handbell Choir and Chancel Choir will perform at both services. On Maundy Thursday, April 1, the service will includes the Holy Eucharist and foot-washing enactment. This service will take place in the chapel at 8 p.m. On Good Friday, April 2, beginning at noon, there will be a meditative labyrinth featuring Jesus’ last hours on earth. The chapel will be open for prayer. At 8 p.m., a service of scripture, a cappella voices, and reflection with focus on “Seven Last Words and Tenebrae of Lights” will be held in the chapel. On Easter Sunday, April 4, services will be held at 9 and 11 a.m. Special music will include a brass quartet, Chancel Choir, and organ. Selections will include movements from Handel’s “Messiah” and festival procession. Dr. Deborah King is music director. The church is located at 15 Shuart Lane in Ramsey. Lenten Spaghetti Dinner set A Lenten Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Friday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Adorno Fathers Center, 575 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. On the menu will be clam and marinara sauces, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Music will be provided by the priests and brothers of the Adorno Fathers. Donation is $10 per person, children under eight are admitted free. To purchase tickets in advance, call (201) 694-6978. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Adorno Fathers Seminary in Ramsey. Bereavement retreat set On Saturday, March 27, Father Francis Gunn, OFM will lead a half-day bereavement retreat for those grieving the loss of a loved one. The group will meet from 9 a.m. to noon in the Saint Paul Interparochial School Multipurpose Room at 187 Wyckoff Avenue. Fr. Francis, a clinical social worker experienced in
bereavement and trauma counseling, has served as a pastor, campus minister, and hospice chaplain. He will seek to foster a deeper peace in the hearts and spirits of the attendees through prayer, reflection, and an exploration of the spiritual issues that often surface in bereavement. Don Bosco hosts annual fundraiser Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey will be hosting its annual Moment of Magic Auction on Friday, March 26 at The Rockleigh Country Club in Rockleigh. In addition to the auctions, there will be a special fundraiser. The first place winner will receive 35 percent of the cash pot, the second place winner will receive 10 percent, and the third place winner will receive five percent. Tickets are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased individually for $50, or a book of five for $200. The winners need not be present at the event.
