Sheriff to discuss Internet safety On Monday, March 8, Bergen County Sheriff McGuire will offer a 7:30 p.m. presentation on Internet safety. This discussion will be held in the Dater School cafeteria and will include information about cyber bullying, identity theft, and more. This event is sponsored by the Dater School PTO, and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Club sets Spring Fling The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey will host a Spring Fling Shopping Spree to benefit the Ramsey public schools. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday, March 8 at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club. Snow date: Monday, March 15. There will be a $10 suggested donation to enter the event. Vendor baskets, a cash prize contest, and an auction will be available to attendees. Proceeds will be donated to the Ramsey Public Education Foundation. Organic gardening explored Mark Borst, president and founder of Borst Landscape and Design of Allendale, will offer tips about organic lawn and garden care at the Ramsey Area Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, March 9. The session will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue. The presentation will cover the central concepts of organics, and how soil health affects plant life. Borst is a graduate of Rutgers with a degree in landscape architecture. He has 20 years of experience as a landscape professional. Delaware announces Dean’s List The following Ramsey students who attend the University of Delaware have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2009 semester: Michael Deo, Michelle Erli, Michael Iozzia, Tiffany Lee, Rachel Rapp, Sarah Roberts, Amanda Sargenti, Matthew Watters, and Shaylyn Welch. To qualify for this honor, a student must be matriculated full-time and have a grade point average of 3.33 or above.
Seniors plan upcoming events A corned beef and cabbage Saint Patrick’s Day luncheon will be held at the Finch Park Senior Center at noon on March 17. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for the new wheelchair lift van, which has been donated by Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., and will be dedicated in memory of Theresa Inserra, mother of Larry Inserra, Laura DuPont, and Marie Larsen. The brand new van includes 14 passenger seats and one wheelchair space. It will be used for doctor appointments, shopping, and recreational trips. Delaney to discuss heart disease Pat Delaney, R.N., director of cardiac outreach with the Valley Hospital, will present “Women and Heart Disease” to the Ramsey Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary on Thursday, March 4. Heart disease is the number one killer of women over the age of 25. One in three women dies of heart disease. The meeting will be held at the Masonic Lodge on the corner of Franklin Turnpike and Lake Street in Ramsey at 1 p.m. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. Beefsteak & Comedy Night set The Ramsey Ambulance Corps will hold a Beefsteak and Comedy Night on Friday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 48 Mechanic Street, Ramsey. The evening will include all the beefsteak and French fries you can eat, and wine, beer, soda, and dessert. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the purchase of equipment upgrades for the ambulances. Tickets are $50 per person, and tables of 10 may be reserved. The McLaughlin Irish Step Dancers will be the first to entertain and will be followed by the Connolly Brothers, renowned for their fine musical repertoire.
