This event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Arturo’s Restaurant at 41 Central Avenue in Midland Park. This charitable event offers an opportunity to meet local professionals and support one of New Jersey’s leading non-profit providers of human services and child welfare programs. Sponsors include Chris Calabrese, The Renatus Group, Frank Rotella, Arturo’s, and Children’s Aid and Family Services. The Baby Basics program provides diapers and other baby essentials to low-income families with children younger than two years of age. Attendees are asked to bring a donation of diapers in size 4, 5, or 6, or a monetary gifts to help the children served by Baby Basics. Children’s Aid and Family Services, which has been serving New Jersey for more than 110 years, also provides adoption and foster care services, child care and early education, alcohol and drug education and prevention, eldercare services, and educational programs and workshops to help strengthen the community. Ball in the House to perform The TIC TOC Sunday Theater Program for children and families will present Ball in the House on Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at Ben Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood. Ball in the House is a five-man a cappella singing group from Boston. This group has performed on “America’s Got Talent and is critically acclaimed for being a unique and ultra-fun “mouth band.” Special group pricing is offered. Established in 1960, TIC TOC (To Introduce Culture to Our Children) is a volunteer non-profit organization that presents fine and performing arts experiences to area students. YWCA offers lifeguard training The YWCA of Bergen County will offer its next American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course March 9 through April 15. Students must take and pass a swim test, which will be held on March 3 at 7 p.m. Participants must be 15 years of age or older. A $10 swim test fee is due at registration. The course fee is $315. This course prepares students with the CPR, first aid, and lifeguard techniques necessary for employment as a professional lifeguard. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at 112 Oak Street, Ridgewood. The YWCA of Bergen County offers a variety of American Red Cross certified programs throughout the year, including swimming lessons for children and adults. Ridgewood Symphony celebrates 70th anniversary The Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 70th anniversary with the RSO Dinner and Fashion Show on Saturday March 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 105 Cottage Place, Ridgewood. A variety of dishes will be contributed by fine area restaurants, and models will be sporting fashions from Ridgewood’s clothing stores and boutiques. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at Oliver’s Chocolates, located at 46 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. Pre-reserved tables for eight to 10 guests are $40 per ticket. RSO has one of the country’s longest uninterrupted histories for a full-size community orchestra. In addition to performing four subscription concerts each season, the RSO sponsors several educational programs, including the The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club recently joined in a socks for troops campaign sponsored by the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel. Participating groups collected white socks to provide to American troops serving overseas. The troops, particularly those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, find the extra white cotton socks are a welcome comfort and a reminder that their efforts are appreciated. Seniors invited to computer courses The Computer Learning Center at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is offering computer courses for seniors. Courses range from three to eight weeks in length and meet for 90-minute sessions. Spring and summer classes include Beginner Computer; Navigating the Internet; E-mail; Highlighting, Copying, and Pasting; and Microsoft Word. These courses are open to all area senior citizens, ages 60 and up, and are taught at a pace designed for seniors. Call (201)445-5690 to register, or for more information about dates and times. The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is located at 46-50 Center Street, Midland Park, and is open to area senior citizens who are at least 60 years of age. Speed networking planned The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a multi-Chamber speed networking event on Tuesday, March 2, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Garden State Plaza Food Court (parking lot enter Door #3), One Garden State Plaza in Paramus. More than 175 people are expected to attend this event, which is hosted by Westfield Garden State Plaza. Colleagues and friends are invited. Breakfast will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring business cards. Registration and breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 8 a.m., followed by three-minute speed networking. The cost is $15 for Chamber members; $20 for nonmembers. Prepaid registration is required; an additional $5 processing fee will be charged if paid the day of event. Game Day/Fashion Show planned The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will host a Game Day and Fashion Show on Wednesday, March 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. This event will be held at the clubhouse at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. Attendees are welcome to play bridge, canasta, poker, and other games while enjoying fashions by a La Casita.
