Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. from July 6 through Aug. 26. F.I.T. Together at the YMCA is a national model program developed at the Ridgewood YMCA with The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation. F.I.T. provides fitness independence training for adolescents and young adults, ages 16 through 30, who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. F.I.T. is specifically designed to improve the participants’ fitness, coordination, socialization, self-confidence, and independence. Each participant is paired with a volunteer peer mentor for support and encouragement. The program is for people with ASD who have sufficient communication and self-help skills to independently participate. It is not appropriate for individuals with significant behavioral or sensory challenges. Foundation sets Golf Outing The Kenneth BK Kaprowski Scholarship Memorial Foundation presentation dinner and annual Golf Outing The Villadom Times is launching an effort so that our publication will receive the most favorable postal rate and improved quality of service from the US Post Office as it continues to reduce its services. Readers can help us by filling out the simple “requester form” below that is required by the US Postal Service. Help sought with postal requirements Each addressee needs to fill out the form only one time, even though the form will appear in several places over the coming weeks. Weekly mail delivery to all homes and businesses will continue uninterrupted and free of charge regardless of whether or not readers return the completed form, but a prompt return will be greatly appreciated. Kaprowski, a 1995 graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School, was a sophomore at Villanova University and a member of Saint Paul Parish in Ramsey, when he was killed during a summer storm in 1997. Each year, the foundation established in his name awards a scholarship to a boy who wishes to attend Don Bosco Prep and exhibits the qualities set forth by the Selection Committee. The outing will begin at 11 a.m. with a memorial Mass followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m., shotgun tee-off at 12:30 p.m. with the scholarship presentation and dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $175 per person for lunch, golf, and dinner; $75 for the dinner and awards presentation only. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes available Mayer’s Karate and Fitness in North Haledon is offering classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with instructor John Finn, a black belt with training from the Gracie Academy in New York City. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art based in ground fighting, will include instruction on takedowns, takedown defense, ground control, and submissions. Seniors invited to computer classes The Computer Learning Center at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center in Midland Park is offering three computer classes for area seniors. Classes will cover basic skills, e-mail, and photos. A five-week beginner computer course will teach keyboard and mouse skills. Participants will learn basic terminology, and be introduced to the Internet and Microsoft Word. This class will meet once a week for 90 minutes. The cost is $25.
