West Bergen plans mental health center in Oakland
For more than 47 years, West Bergen Mental Healthcare has been a leader in providing innovative, mental health services for children and adults. Recently, the West Bergen Board of Trustees continued this tradition of service by committing to the establishment of a new state-of-the-art mental health center in Oakland. “The plan is to build West Bergen’s newest Center for Excellence on a six-acre site in downtown Oakland,” said Quentin W. Wiest II, president of the West Bergen Board of Trustees. “The new facility will enable the agency to more than double the number of clients treated and to expand and enrich much needed existing programs.” He added, “It is more than just a building. “The new facility will increase West Bergen’s ability to change and save the lives of individuals, children, and families.” Over the past two years, the demand for West Bergen’s services has increased by more than 18 percent. Today’s troubling economy, along with loss of jobs, savings, and homes, compounds an already existing demand for affordable mental health services for families and individuals in northern New Jersey. The growing need for mental healthcare in Bergen County and the region has strained West Bergen’s current space and staff. The future 30,000 square foot facility will be built in Oakland at the intersection of routes 208, 287, and 202. The new center will be within easy reach of more than 1.2 million people living in Bergen, Passaic, and Morris counties in New Jersey, Rockland County, New York, and beyond. The regional family center will house individual and group therapy rooms, waiting areas and conference rooms. The additional space and staff will allow West Bergen to

critical need in every community. Every family knows someone who, at one point in their life, really benefited from the kinds of services and programs that West Bergen provides.”
on your 20 years of dedicated service to the Northwest Bergen County Communities.
