Mahwah June 2, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 9 Christopher Wieland of Mahwah Boy Scout Troop 258 has attained the rank of Eagle Scout – the top honor available in Boy Scouting. A Court of Honor was held at The Law & Public Safety Institute in Mahwah, where Troop 258, family, and friends gathered to celebrate Wieland’s achievement. The new Eagle Scout is the son of Kathleen and Roger Wieland, and brother of Liam. He joined Pack 197 of Mahwah in September, 2000, and advanced through the ranks of Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. He earned the Arrow of Light award in May 2005. In June 2005, Weiland joined Troop 258, progressing through the ranks and earning 24 merit badges. He served as assistant patrol leader, troop historian, and den chief to Cub Scout Den 7 in Pack 197. Additionally, he volunteered at Camp Yaw Paw, a Cub Scout Day Camp, and Tenderfoot Troop, a provisional Troop for new Scouts at NoBeBoSco Boy Scout Camp. For his Eagle Service project, Wieland worked with George Washington School Principal Dr. Patricia Hanratty and volunteers to create an outdoor learning center and picnic grove at the school. His project took place over Weiland is Boy Scout Troop 258’s newest Eagle a six month period with 326 hours of planning, preparation, and execution. His troop, family, friends, and local business volunteered to work with Wieland to clear out an overgrown, unused area of the school’s side lawn. The work performed included pruning and removal of unsafe trees, cleanup and clearing of the lot, and the relocation of several mature bushes and landscaping. Additionally, he refurbished eight picnic tables and built five new ones. Donations from local and national organizations helped Wieland with his project. The new Eagle Scout is currently a sophomore at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. He is studying business and finance. He also enjoys the music programs at BCA, playing the viola in the school orchestra and string quartet. He is a member of DECA, and recently competed in the regional, state, and national competitions. In addition, he recently earned his black belt in tae kwon do. Wieland plans to attend college and pursue a degree in business. He intends to stay active in his troop helping others with their community service projects.
