Motorists should plan an alternate route or allow more travel time. County paves Waldwick thoroughfares Bergen County will be paving Franklin Turnpike and Wyckoff Avenue in Waldwick this summer. Motorists who are unable to plan alternate routes around the work areas are advised follow the posted detours and to anticipate significant delays. Work on Franklin Turnpike was scheduled to begin late last week. The road will remain open during the milling process, but lane closures are anticipated. Paving is set for July 27 and 28, weather permitting. The county will pave the entire length of Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick. Wyckoff Avenue is scheduled to be milled next week, with paving tentatively set for Aug. 2. Plans call for Wyckoff Avenue to be paved from Franklin Turnpike to Salrit Avenue and from Crescent Avenue west to the Wyckoff border. Area Rotarians invited to meeting The Allendale Community for Mature Living will host a meet and greet event in honor of the new Allendale/ Saddle River Rotary Club on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting, which will feature a buffet dinner, is open to the public. Area Rotarians are encouraged to attend. Reservations are required, as seating is limited. The evening’s guest speaker will be Christina Genovese, director of business affairs for the office of the governor. The new Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club has already begun several projects, which include providing temporary living quarters to the earthquake victims of Haiti, establishing a recreation program for low-income seniors in Paterson, and assisting a burn victim from Poland. Valley offers hypnosis for weight control The Valley Hospital will host a Hypnosis for Weight Control Program on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. The twohour weight loss program will provide behavior modification and hypnotic suggestions to participants so they can make permanent lifestyle changes to lose weight naturally and successfully. It is widely known that going on a diet does not address the reasons for overeating. This program will address the internal and external triggers of unproductive habits by using hypnotic suggestion and behavior modification techniques. Participants in the program receive a 30-day reinforcement audiotape and a series of behavior modification cards to be used daily as positive reinforcement. The program fee is $75, and includes the cost of materials and revisits to future seminars for one year for reinforcement. To register, call 1-800-VALLEY 1 (1-800-825-5391). Seniors invited to sunset cruise The Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center is hosting a sunset cruise with the Hackensack Riverkeeper on Thursday, Aug. 19. The two-hour trip up the Hackensack River will cover the same route traveled by the coastal schooners that once carried cargo to and from Bergen County. Attendees will pass the ruins of former docks and landings and discuss the region’s all-but-forgotten maritime history. The cruise will travel as far north as the Court Street Bridge for an opportunity to get an up-close view of the USS Ling, a WW2 Balao-class submarine and centerpiece of the New Jersey Naval Museum. (continued on page 22) Help still needed with Post Office requirement The Villadom Times has received thousands of completed requester forms from readers throughout our circulation area, but many more thousands are needed so that our publication will receive the most favorable postal rate and improved quality of service from the US Post Office as it continues to reduce its services. “We can’t thank our readers enough for taking the time to fill out the forms the Post Office requires,” said Villadom Times Publisher Ester Vierheilig. “We are committed to seeing this project through and hope that those who have not done so will either mail in the forms or complete them on line as soon as possible.” The form may be mailed in, or dropped off at our office at 333 Godwin Ave. in Midland Park. It may also be completed on line (www.freevilladom.com). Your information will only be used for this purpose. Each addressee needs to fill out the form only one time, even though the form will appear in several places over the coming weeks. Weekly mail delivery to all homes and businesses will continue uninterrupted and free of charge regardless of whether or not readers return the completed form, but a prompt return will be greatly appreciated. Local clubs, houses of worship or organizations that would be willing to aid us in our campaign to get back completed forms are asked to call Ester at 201-652-0744 or email ester@villadom.com.
