Curry collects baseball equipment for Jersey City team
Ian Curry, a sophomore at Mahwah High School, recently organized a baseball equipment drive for needy athletes in the Washington Park Little League in Jersey City. The drive, called “Angels in the Outfield,” scored donations from the Mahwah area and other towns. Curry collected all kinds of equipment. He received over 100 bats, 50 gloves, 15 helmets, 27 spikes, 15 bat bags, 45 hats, 35 pairs of baseball pants, 100 baseballs, and two sets of catcher’s equipment. The director of the Little League, John Brunn, was eager to receive the donations. “Many teams share the same bat or even ask me for a ball so they can practice at home,” Brunn said. Curry was able to meet one of the young players, who he said was amazed to see all the equipment. “He knew the names of the bats and he couldn’t wait to use them,” Curry reported. Next year, Curry plans to continue the equipment drive. “There are many other kids out there who don’t have enough equipment, or sometimes any at all. It was easy to do because there are so many generous people. Thank you to everyone who dropped stuff off for it!” To donate equipment for next year’s drive, contact or text Ian at (201) 316-5192.
