The memorial scholarships are named for John J. Nunziata Sr. and Lawrence Inserra Sr. These awards are funded through the generosity of the Nunziata and Inserra families and the members of Ramsey UNICO. Recipients of this year’s scholarships are Grace DiPaolo, Sloan DePiero, Zach Donnarumma, Amy Tartini, and Samantha DeMeglio from Ramsey High School; Nicholas Margherita from Don Bosco Prep; and Anthony Ambrogio from Saint Joseph High School. These outstanding students of Italian-American ancestry have distinguished themselves through academic achievement and school/ community activities. Louis LaVigna, president of the Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter, recognized the achievements of the scholarship recipients, saying, “UNICO’s commitment to support education is part of our tradition. These impressive young scholars will be the future leaders in our society. We are proud to support them as they begin their college experiences.” John Nunziata, president of the Ramsey Board of Education and UNICO Scholarship Chairperson, and LaVigna presented the awards at the Ramsey High School Scholarship ceremony acknowledging the students’ success in high school and their future potential. The Greater Ramsey Chapter of UNICO raises funds for its scholarship awards and for the support of local mental health programs, children with disabilities, seniors in need, and programs to educate the public about Italian culture throughout the year. The organization recently held a Golf Outing fundraiser at the Upper Montclair Country Club. UNICO, a nationwide Italian-American service orga- nization, is dedicated to promoting Italian heritage and supporting a broad range of local and national charitable programs.
