Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • July 21, 2010 Area Twenty-six students have been awarded scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year from the Valley Health System Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship Award Program. The Valley Health System Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship Program was established to provide financial assistance to qualified applicants. Specifically, the program is for students who intend to pursue a nursing program in an educational institution accredited by the National League for Nursing or other qualified accrediting agencies leading to licensure or a degree in nursing. This year’s six new recipients are listed here with their hometowns and academic institutions they plan to attend. They are: Eileen Alvarez of Fair Lawn, Felician College; Jacqueline Cooperman of Somerville, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Sarah Hespe of Park Ridge, Fairfield University; Megan P. Higgins of Ridgewood, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; Robyn Sarig of Waldwick, Mountainside School of Nursing; and Nina Shulgach of Allendale, College of New Jersey. Scholarship Committee Chair Kay Yeomans also announced the renewal of the Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarships for 20 of last year’s awardees. They are: Michael Bendett of Glen Rock, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Kashema Blair of Paterson, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Colleen E. Briggs of Tuxedo, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Milena Castillo of Ridgewood, Felician College; Laura Higgins of Glen Rock, Simmons College; Kayla Jimenez of Paramus, Felician College; Heather Kutler of Passaic, Felician College; Melissa Lancaster of Wyckoff, University of Scranton; Dana Nangle of Elmwood Park, Rutgers University; Amanda Parisi of Oakland, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Kate Passero of Midland Park, College of New Jersey; Stephanie Pereira of North Bergen, Seton Hall University; Jodi Ann Pino of Prospect Park, William Paterson University; Alyssa Rittinger of Midland Park, William Paterson University; Ashlyn Rudloff of Pearl River, Rockland Community College; Kayla Stringer/Featherstone Scholarship awards presented Simpson of River Edge, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Marian Shumilova of Paramus, Ramapo College of New Jersey; Lisa Sileo of Park Ridge, University of Pennsylvania; Alexandra Smith of River Vale, University of Pennsylvania; and Christine Van Lenten of Allendale, University of Scranton. To be eligible for a Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship, an applicant must meet certain qualifications. These include enrollment in an accredited nursing program, recommendation by the guidance counselor or dean/chairman of a college nursing program, indications of self-help on the part of the applicant, financial need and residency within in the geographical area serviced by Valley Health System and its affiliates. The Stringer/Featherstone Scholarship is currently accepting donations. Tennin and Cohoon were the recipients of the Mahwah Schools Foundation Scholarships, which are awarded to well-rounded students with outstanding character and good academic performance.
