Villadom Happenings (continued from page 2) sponsor a three-day workshop, “Ready, Set, Kindergarten,” Aug. 23 through 25 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the Children’s Center offices at 1 Cherry Lane, Ramsey. Designed to promote social and emotional competencies in preschoolers, the program is intended to better prepare children to enter kindergarten in the fall. During the workshop, children will begin to develop the ability to listen to stories without interrupting, pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks, begin to share with others, participate in group activities, begin to follow rules, begin to communicate feelings in words, participate in other people’s games, and other social skills. Elder abuse to be discussed The Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center will host a July 21 Lunch and Learn seminar on elder abuse. The session will begin at 11:45 a.m. Financial, physical, and emotional abuse against older adults is often unrecognized and underreported. The goal of this seminar is to create community awareness of this problem. This seminar is open to all area seniors age 60 and over. Eldercare social worker, Sheila Brogan will lead the seminar starting with a brief talk about elder abuse followed by the video, “An Age of Justice: Confronting Elder Abuse in America,” and discussion.
