January 13, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 17 Ramsey Review Kindergarten registration set Kindergarten registration for Ramsey children who will be five on or before Oct. 1, 2010 will be held at the Wesley D. Tisdale School and Mary A. Hubbard School on Jan. 18 and 19 between 9 and 11 a.m. Registration packets should be picked up in the child’s assigned elementary school office beforehand. On registration day, parents should bring the packets with them. Parents should include a recent photograph of the child with the registration materials. Appointments for kindergarten screening, to be held in February, will be made at time of registration. On Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., parents of kindergarteners are invited to learn about Ramsey’s kindergarten program and the screening process. The meeting will be held at Tisdale School. Snow date: Thursday, Jan. 28. Seniors announce upcoming events The Ramsey Seniors’ first event of the New Year will be a luncheon at the Look See Chinese Restaurant in Ramsey at noon on Jan. 19. Lunch will include eggroll, soup, salad, and choice of entree. The cost is $7 per person and participants may sign up at borough hall. Tai Chi classes are held on Thursday at 1 p.m. This course will run for eight weeks. By popular demand, yoga is once again being offered on Friday at 9:50 a.m. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes. Join Marge and Bea for a movie and treats on Sundays at 1 p.m. The next feature will be “Brooklyn Lobster.” Ping pong players are looking for new people to play on Friday at 1 p.m. All skill levels are welcome. There is a pool table available in the senior center annex. Bring a pal on Mondays at 1 p.m. and make use of the facility. Anyone interested in actively helping at the center is invited to attend the meetings held the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. There will be positions available for new committee officers during the spring. Blood Drive coming up The Hawthorne Fortitude Masonic Lodge in Ramsey, 24 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will host a Blood Drive on Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 3 to 8 p.m. New Jersey Blood Services is still in need of blood donations. Each donor will receive free cholesterol testing; walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment to donate, or to resolve questions of medical eligibility, call 1-800-933-BLOOD (2566). Qualified donors should be 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. Donors must present a photo or signed ID and know their Social Security number. Donors over 75 years of age can donate with a physician’s note. Fine Arts Council offers workshop The Ramsey Fine Arts Council is offering “A Sampling of the Arts,” a workshop that will introduce children in grades two through six to hip hop dance, improv theater, vocal music, and fine art. The program, which will be taught by adult professionals, will be held at Dater School on Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each child will spend part of the day in each genre. All students must be pre-registered. The Fine Arts Council’s Open Mic at Borders at the Interstate Shopping Center will resume on Jan. 23. Sinatra tribute planned The Ramsey Knights of Columbus will host a Valentine’s Day Tribute to Frank Sinatra on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the Council Hall, 48 Mechanic Street. Jason Nazzaro will entertain singing all of “Old Blue Eyes”’ favorite songs. A full Italian buffet will be served. Tables of 10 may now be reserved. Cliff Davenport, state horticulturalist for Skylands New Jersey Botanical Gardens and Ringwood Manor, will present a slide presentation on the distinctive forms and features that guide tree identification. The program, to be housed at Tisdale School, will run from 8:50 to 11:20 a.m. and 12:20 to 2:50 p.m. Monday through Friday in accordance with the Ramsey school calendar. Students attend either the morning or afternoon session five days a week. To be eligible, a general education child must be four years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2010. A birth certificate, copy of immunizations, and proof of residency will be required of those students admitted to the program. Students will be screened for admission to the program. The annual tuition for the program will be $2,650. Applications for general education preschoolers are available at Tisdale and Hubbard Elementary Schools.
