Baseball equipment sought Ian Curry, a sophomore at Mahwah High School, is collecting used or new baseball equipment for young athletes in Jersey City. The equipment will go directly to children in the Washington Park, Jersey City, Little League program. Items being sought include baseballs, softballs, bats, gloves, mitts, batting gloves, cleats, clothing, helmets, caps, and catcher’s equipment. Spanish pianist to perform concert Spanish pianist Mario Prisuelos will perform at the Mahwah Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. The concert is free. No tickets are necessary. Saint Patrick’s Day celebration set The Grand Celebration of Saint Patrick will be held in the gymnasium at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 900 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah, on March 6. Bergen Pipe Band will be performing as the opening act. This Celtic sound will pipe off at 7 p.m. The Terry Feeley Band will be providing traditional Irish tunes along with a vast assortment of pop and rock classics. Denise Holt will make a special guest appearance to call the Ceili dance numbers, and champion dancers from the

Anniversary year begins The Ramapo Reformed Church, located at 100 Island Road in Mahwah, will begin a year-long celebration of its 225th anniversary with a concert on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. in the historical 1798 sanctuary. Director of Music/organist Elle Morris, organist Allen Blehl, and the Ramapo Chamber Choir will be featured. Performers will also include Marian Latz, Amanda Felegi, Valerie Pineda, and Juan Pineda. A reception will follow the concert. A free will offering will be taken to support Blehl in his college study of music. Culinary Institute, winery tours planned The Mahwah Senior Center is planning a trip to the Culinary Institute and the Brotherhood Winery on April 7. The tour will feature deluxe motor coach transportation, a guided tour of the Culinary Institute of America, a threecourse luncheon at Ristorante Caterina De Medici, and a tour and tasting at the Brotherhood Winery. Temple hosts fundraiser Beth Haverim Shir Shalom, 280 Ramapo Valley Road, will hold its annual theme basket fundraiser at the temple on Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m. Prize baskets will be brimming with merchandise and gift certificates to restaurants, spas, and other establishments. Fashion show to aid shelter Local students and their teachers will raise money and awareness for victims of domestic abuse by hosting the Femme Mystique Fashion Show on Sunday, March 7. The event will feature fashions from the 1950s through
today, with a focus on the theme of women breaking free. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. Admission is $20, and proceeds go toward Shelter Our Sisters. Shelter Our Sisters is a non-profit organization that assists women and children who are victims of domestic violence, including emotional, economic, sexual, and physical abuse. Boys’ pitching and catching clinics for grades three to eight will be held on March 5, 12, 19, and 26. Session I will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Session II will run from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. The older boys will be assigned to Session II. The girls’ pitching clinic for grades three to eight will be held on March, 7, 14, 21, and 28. Session I will be held at noon, and Session II will begin at 12:45 p.m. The older girls will be assigned to Session II. Applications are available at www.MahwahYouthSports.org. The fee is $45. Not by Bread Alone to meet The Not by Bread Alone Book Group will discuss “The Holy Longing: The Search for a Christian Spirituality” by Ronald Rolheiser on March 7 at 5 p.m. at Panera Bread, Route 17, Ramsey. Rolheiser contends that the late 20th century is marked by a spiritual restlessness. He gets quickly to the heart of common difficulties, and shows through compelling anecdotes and personal examples how to channel that restlessness into a healthy spirituality.
