Valley Hospital is offering three heart health programs this month. Topics will include prevention and care, support for heart patients and their caregivers, and an evening of pampering and tips for women. The Valley Hospital and the YWCA of Bergen County invite the community to learn more about women and heart disease with a leading female cardiologist. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, killing six times more women than breast cancer. With proper education, prevention, and treatment, many women can beat the odds. Learn about the unique cardiac symptoms women experience and how to prevent and treat heart disease in women. The program will feature Valley Cardiologist Janet Strain, M.D. and will take place Feb. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the YWCA, 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. Valley Hospital holds a monthly education and support group for heart patients and their families. The program is held the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road, Paramus. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 16. This program is specially designed for the heart patient and his or her caregiver to help manage heart failure and improve quality of life. Attendees will have access to nurse practitioners/clinicians who can help answer questions and clarify self-care

The Center for Women’s Heart Health offers a free comprehensive Heart Risk Assessment that can identify if a woman is at increased risk for heart disease. management. Anyone who needs help managing his or her medication regimen is invited to come and learn about the medications prescribed and what they do for the patient. This program offers support, tips for handling care, and a chance to meet others in similar situations. Registration is required.
