Berrie Center celebrates 10 years On Feb. 6, Ramapo College of New Jersey will host a day-long celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. The public is invited to join this celebration, which will be held between 3 and 11 p.m. The center is the hub of cultural events for the college and the region and has hosted scores of world-class performances, exhibits and other cultural events since its opening 1999. It houses the College’s School of Contemporary Arts, the Sharp and Adler theaters, the Pascal and Kresge galleries, and numerous studios, classrooms, and rehearsal rooms. The celebration will begin with an Open House from 3 to 5 p.m., which will showcase student, alumni, and faculty films, performances, concerts, lectures, and exhibitions. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., former Ramapo College President Dr. Robert A. Scott, who is the current president of Adelphi University, will discuss the effort to create the center. He will also participate in a panel discussion, “Why an Arts Education When the World is Falling Apart?” in the Adler Theatre. The panel will include Ramapo faculty and administrators. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., guests are invited to the alumni exhibition, “Tops of the Ten.” From 7 to 10 p.m., distinguished alumni, students, and faculty will offer musical performances. Students, alumni, and friends of the center are invited to a dance that will be held between 10 p.m. and midnight. For more information, call the Berrie Center Box Office at (201) 684-7844. H1N1 clinic scheduled The Mahwah Health Department will host a free H1N1 Vaccination Clinic on Feb. 12 at the Lenape Meadows Elementary School in Mahwah. This is clinic is open to all groups. Pre-registration is required. To register, visit www. nwbrhc.org and choose the “Mahwah Site” location. A printed copy of the appointment confirmation is required
on the day of the clinic. Those who do not have access to a computer may call (201) 445-7217. Injectable vaccine (inactivated, and containing a trace amount of mercury) and flu mist will be available. Pregnant women will need to submit a doctor’s note of medical clearance and all participants will be asked to remain at the clinic for 15 minutes after vaccination for medical observation. Pancake Supper planned The Ramapo Reformed Church, 100 Island Road, will hold its annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults; $3 for children under five. Saint Patrick’s Day Festival set The Mahwah Seniors will visit Doolan’s in Spring Lake for a Saint Patrick’s Day Festival on Tuesday, March 16. Mike and Jimmy Byrne will make it a great day for the wearin’ of the green with feasting, dancing, and singing. The festival will include a luncheon with a one hour open bar, garden salad, choice of pasta or soup, choice of entrée, dessert, coffee or tea, and wine and soda during dinner. The Mahwah Public Library is offering a job search workshop focusing on interviewing skills with Barbara Brandes, a career and executive coach, on Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. Brandes is dedicated to helping business professionals define their goals, develop career strategies, and take action for continued success. She currently is career advisor with the school of business at Monroe College. She was previously a career advisor at Yeshiva University, and director of career counseling at Sarah Lawrence. She has been a career counselor for over 15 years, including eight years a manager of counseling and training at the Bergen Workforce
Center in Hackensack and two years as an outplacement consultant for Drake Beam Morin. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from Montclair State University. Board of health to meet The Township of Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Mahwah Municipal Building at 475 Corporate Drive. Le Boeuf to discuss Lincoln Glen Le Boeuf will present “Ten Moral Questions in the Life of Abraham Lincoln” on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road, Mahwah. As the storm clouds of war gathered around him, Lincoln’s words at his first inaugural address urged Americans to listen to “the better angels of our nature” to avoid a war. Few Americans ever lived these words so well as Lincoln. Le Boeuf will offer 10 stories that show will show how, throughout his entire life, Lincoln was a powerful living example of kindness, dedication to the truth, generosity, empathy, restraint, humility, compassion, and resolve. A former social studies teacher and Abraham Lincoln Association member, LeBoeuf weaves many humorous stories about “Old Abe” into his lecture. This program is free. No tickets are necessary. Library hosts ‘That’s Amore’ Spend an entertaining afternoon with tenor Salvatore Chiarelli and soprano Elga Johannes as they present “That’s Amore” at the Mahwah Library, 100 Ridge Road, Mahwah. This free concern has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 7. Accompanied by Asami Tamura on piano, Chiarelli and Johannes will sing Valentine’s Day love songs. No tickets are necessary.
