Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • February 3, 2010 Mahwah The Mahwah Police arrested and charged the owner of a Blimpie fast food restaurant in the township for the fraudulent use of a patron’s debit card. On Dec. 30, 2009, a Suffern, New York resident reported to the Mahwah Police Department that she had several fraudulent charges on her Capitol One debit card after she discovered it missing from her wallet. The victim remembered last using the card to make a purchase at the Blimpie on Franklin Turnpike on Dec. 27. The fraudulent charges, which totaled in excess of $400, were made at a Dunkin Donuts in Paramus, a Shop Rite in Little Falls, a 7-11 in West Paterson, and a gas station in Clifton. Mahwah detectives conducted an extensive investigation, followed up with the purchase establishments, and obtained video footage of the suspect. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as the Westwood man who owns the Blimpie. He was interviewed and subsequently arrested on Jan. 6 and charged with 2C:20-6, theft of lost or stolen credit card. He was released with a future date in Mahwah Municipal Court. The Mahwah Police Investigative Division continually takes a proactive approach to deterring prostitution activity within the township. Through proactive monitoring of various means and Internet services that promote prostitution and/or illegal activity, Mahwah detectives conduct undercover stings of organizations or individual(s) who offer prostitution services or other illegal activity within the township, particularly area hotels. As a result of the Man charged with fraudulent use of debit card Mahwah Police Department’s ongoing work, the following investigations and arrest were recently conducted. On Jan. 8, police arrested a 31-year-old woman from Pahrump, Nevada for engaging in prostitution at a hotel in the township. Detectives became aware of the woman’s intention to conduct potential prostitution activity at a local hotel and subsequently facilitated an undercover investigation. As a result of the undercover operation, she was arrested and charged with 2C: 34-1b(1). Additionally, $947 in her possession was seized as proceeds of illegal activity. On Jan. 21, Mahwah detectives arrested a 25-year-old Palisades Park woman for engaging in prostitution. Detectives developed information that a female would be in a local hotel and possibly be involved in illegal activity. Detectives conducted an undercover operation and arrested the woman. Investigation revealed that she worked for an escort service called Elegant Asians, but detectives have not identified a business agent or address for the alleged company. This award is given annually to young people who have made significant contributions of time and energy to trail building or protection. Over the past few years, troop members have volunteered over 600 hours of hard labor performing trail maintenance, greasing cables, performing stone work, and building a new section of the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain State Park in New York.
